I think they did that to give it some kind of new video element. :/ Not sure exactly what they were thinking with those shadow clones (lol shadow clones)

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question, but as of now, what charts in DDR are only playable on an arcade (i.e. never released on a console anywhere)?
Jenny ROM - Senorita
Vanilla Ninja - Tough Enough
Aria - Beauitful Life.
The 3 exclusive songs from Dancing Stage.
10 Licenses from EuroMIX 2.
The MOMO MIX of Still In My Heart appeared in one of the ULTRAMIXES, IIRC.
Smile.dk - Petit Love
Janet Jackson - Doesn't Really Matter
Pegasus - Faint
Helen - Me Against the Music
X-Treme - A Minute (Extended Remix)
Scooth - More Than I Needed to Know
All Korean songs in DDR 3rd Mix
Obviously, majority of the DDR X2 licenses.

I still don't like this game as much compared to last year's Wii game. D8; But I shouldn't judge a game based on what ISN'T there. I grudgingly admit that I quite enjoy the RDA songs, despite their insane BPMs. The new KOs (the ones I am certain are new anyway...) sound great. I won't judge a game based on their stepcharts, either, since I couldn't care less how it "flows" as long as it's fun, so...ah. I guess some of them were a bit too hard for me. It's still overall fun.
The cons of this game don't nearly make up for the pros of this game, but it's not a fair way to judge a game. I just hope that next year we see an honest effort to make both songs/charts/etc AND characters/stages/etc look equally good. I'm sure there can be a way for both 83 songs AND good characters/stages. Lose the long versions, for a start. It makes selecting a song so tedious. Those really aren't worth it still imo. At least not for licenses...
The videos for the KOs and RDA songs, some of them are nice. Like smoooooch *A* and one of the sakura's (can't remember which), but the others are quite boring. Almost like stylized visualizers than an actual video for the song. o_o This being my first time ever seeing them, that's my first impression. Maybe I'll figure it out as I view them more.

Come on guys, give fairy a break. She's obviously the new generation of DDR player that have sprouted up with the Hottest Party series that Konami is trying to aim at. Remember, she's not used to the AC perfect versions and hell, she didn't even know what RD-A was until DDR II screenshots were posted. So main thing is, she's the type of consumer that is playing this game to enjoy the flashy stuff and probably won't get into the older mixes to "care" about game play aside from maybe the songs.
I know it's possible that she might want to start playing the older games to see what people are talking about as this game may bridge the old and new players. This is really starting to turn into a battle of "Bar vs. No Bar" but obviously it's about "Hardcore players's vs Casual". Key thing is, if the game really was only about step charts, good music including licenses and pure arcade games fun wouldn't DDR have gone the way of ITG? It's pointless telling someone how they should enjoy the game when it's clear that it should be up to the person playing how it's enjoyed.
Which also brings up another idea of mine. Why did Konami think it was a good idea to merge the fan base with just one game and title? I see what they tried to do with DDR X2/HP3 but I think they should have kept trying. Maybe it was a cost effective maneuver on their part to go down to just one. It's reasons like this why there should be an arcade-port for the purists and the casual / new gen games for people like Fairy who couldn't care less if we had OLD PSX era features (although shock arrows or similar would have been nice. They did have the mine things in HP1&2. So why not?) Obviously long versions aren't for her and if there's one person who doesn't like them then there are bound to be many more. We could put that with the AC features as a "RETURNING FROM DDR 5thMIX!" type of thing since Konami is letting us know that older versions do exist. (They've been doing that since DDRMAX with other Konami games and since SN2 with individual games. iirc)
Dammit, pretty much ninja'd by everyone taking so long to type.

So some more in-depth thoughts after giving it a go:
- The X2 KO videos being used as dedicated music videos is really kind of weird. I would have preferred an X2 styled stage with the videos incidentally happening in the background. Feels empty.
- The stages for non-video songs are sweet, I love them.
- I think at the end of the day, I would prefer long versions to be dropped, and for the same reason as always: most stepcharts are just copy/paste because songs necessarily repeat verse and choruses. Even some short versions are repetitive, and it only gets worse in a long version. The breakdowns are interesting, but those can be included in a good short cut. Long versions also great difficulty inconsistency; I don't think some of these songs should have the same rating as a long version, but that's a tough call because there's not much precedent for this.
- The most fun for me is definitely the X2 content, but there are definite improvements in the KO quality from the CS team, both musically and step-wise. I hope they continue this upward momentum.
- The addition of the X-scale and Challenge are fantastic, I'm really happy they listened to us on this point.
- I wish the currently selected song was always on the middle of the song select, like X2.
- RDA feels a little out of place for some reason; in an arcade setting it's sweet, but I kind of miss having some kind of story mode cobbled together to give it some kind of cheesy interest factor.
- There are some rating consistency issues; Somebody To Love, while fun, is not an 11. Say A Prayer is not a 10, especially when they also crank out Heartbreak as a 10. Also a little weird how they didn't interface with the AC team and use updated ratings that will presumably be in X3; YELLOW CANDY is absolutely a 14.
- Lose the megamixes. I'll play the other games (or rather, I'll buy them) if I really want to play those songs, rather than play short snippets badly mixed together.
- Move the Lesson songs to a Lesson mode or something, it's weird to have them on the same song select as Valkyrie dimension. They also land near MEI on an alphabetic sort, which made me lol.
- LONDON evolved is really great, good steps, good song(s), bravo for that one, especially after the step-vomit that was NEW YORK evolved.
- Tired of jun boss songs. Give someone else a shot. Or at least try another genre, jun. Giving the song to Sparky to remix didn't help.
- I love the collab songs with Vanilla Ice and Maxi Priest. Great touch! Would've been hot to have music videos for them with their respective stars. ;)
- I could've used a random Dancemania license or two.
Overall, this is a CS release I can finally support again. It's been a couple years, but we're back on track and I hope they can continue to improve on this formula and deliver more great DDR games.

I agree with you sharibetsu. I was that same way when SuperNOVA came out. I grew up with SuperNOVA and it because my favorite DDR game(and it still is now). I didn't understand what all the mess about how DDR peaked at Extreme2 and ITG was better was until I bought the older versions of DDR and played ITG, and sometimes I still don't get why these days, but I can kinda see where the old DDR veterans were coming from. When you start out on a certain DDR game(now many of them are not good games to start with) like Max2, or SuperNOVA, or one of the Hottest Party editions, it's tricky to get through more changes to DDR. I also played SuperNOVA because I was a fan of the characters and didn't really think much of how good I was at DDR until I got my metal mat, my scores skyrocketed, and now I'm a competitive DDR(and ITG) player.
All in all though, I think anyone who plays DDR should give every game a chance(except for Disney Channel, Winx Club, and to some extent 2010) because it's always good to get some variety and be able to understand other players who prefer different generations of dance games. I'm part of the SuperNOVA generation and I understand those from the pre-SuperNOVA times. I really hope this makes sense. I mean, I'm not too big on the fact that the game is lacking a ton of the awesome dancers from the mainstream series(to tell the truth, I don't like the HP characters that much), but I still accept the game because I like the music and the newer features.
And that is a good point, could Konami merge the fanbases. It wouldn't be too hard to combine both sets of characters so say some HP fan wants to select Rena onscreen while a traditional fan selects Rage so they can dance on a stage of choice at the same time. The songs could be combined and there could be 2 unlock modes and numerous stages to choose from. Long versions and shock arrows could be a preference too. And I'm sure Konami would have more disc space if they got rid of the Mii bodies(I honestly don't know anyone who likes the Mii bodies) and maybe one Justin Bieber song instead of two.

I'm glad other hardcore fans here are much more mature than you are. ._. Shocking as it is, a game can be fun too at face value too. I haven't been with DDR for that long, I've only been playing since 2008. I'm sure given more time to learn about all the terms and etc hardcore fans know about, then maybe I can have a more "experienced" opinion of charts and such.

I also have the PS2 games Extreme 1 and 2, Super NOVA 1 and 2, and DDR X. Out of all those, DDR X is the one I enjoyed the most. I loved Extreme 2 too, though. I also head to the local mall to play Super NOVA AC once in a while. I'd enjoy a bit more it if I got more than 3 songs per tokens, but I guess that's fair. D8
I always have the arrows set to "Shuffle", and I don't know the terms for the flow of charts other than "Gallops", so I just go with it. 8D; I can't spin for the life of me, and I mostly play Difficult. When people talk charts, they're usually talking about Challenge and Expert, so I don't know the general opinion of Difficult charts. D8;

I agree with Arctic Wolves and agentmargo.
- There will always be some songs that have debatable foot ratings, especially when songs have one intense section and the rest of the chart is easy (Under the Sky being an obvious example).
- As much as I love jun songs, she should go back to charting songs like Happy Angel and Sweet Sweet ♥ Magic. Although I am sad there is no new Terra song. Konami should let some other in house artists get some boss song love. Glad that DJ Yoshitaka took the plunge with VD. Maybe let DM Ashura have another boss song like Aztec Templing (Techno-Titlan Mix).
- The long versions are nice for some songs (particularly Spice up your life) but I agree that the copy and paste charts is a bit of a downer.
- I started with Supernova 1 also and it is still my favorite CS game. It has a very good balance in types of charts and difficulties and a decent amount of Happy Hardcore. I still will load it up just to play Freckles
.
Yes, nothing is more amusing than watching my Mii be a hot tranny mess. Work it gurl!?
