Wow, seriously. I doubt people wouldn't be able to hack a machine with an SD card. But yeah, Konami's dumb, etc etc.

Kickass noteskin, too. Fits perfectly on X.
What are you talking about? It's the same retarded hard to see noteskin we've had for years. It just looks different due to the blurring effect of moving fast. It gets blitted in 2 places, so the camera sees the same note twice.
Why would I be talking about THAT one? The one on the right, duh.

I see this as their way of saying, "We want to make absolutely sure you can't use stepmania to make edits."

Thanks for showing you care, Konami.
They can't protect the format, I'm guessing?

I was referring to the one on the right, duh. Observe this pic of Afronova Primeval on EX2 on 3x, and you see almost the same effect

Edit: I wasn't looking at the judgement panel before. I guess it is a new noteskin, but the coloring is still retarded.

Exactly. At least they're smart enough to realize that.

I blame Konami's cautiousness on ITG. I don't think anyone would manage to do anything using USB cards, though.

QFT. I mean, if you could hack the machine to be able to play "Soulja Boi", there will be problems...

..so then, if no stepmania, then the only possible solution will be the "PC program" that Konami says you will need in order to make the edits...

...thing is, what is it and when will it be released?

No, no, no. If they're worried about "security issues" aka "people using stepmania to make edits", then they won't give us a PC program. If they did, we could reverse engineer it, and they don't want that. In all likelihood, Japan will get a program capable of making edits and putting them on USB drives, along with arcade machines able to use USB drives. We on the other hand, will get arcade machines that don't use USB or SD (because those can both be edited with a computer), and won't get a program for making edits. Best case we can reasonably expect: Arcade machine loads edit library off of PS2 memcard.
Of course, there will be a few arcades that import japanese machines, just like with previous releases.

So all in all were screwed with the whole USB thing IF this happens? Makes sense...

...and i wouldn't mind using my mem card for the AC Smile

I would... because I stink at making edits and do want to play edits others do. (and I really don't feel like loading them on via action replay or manual input)

there have been programs out for a while that can take DDR edit data and make it into .SM format, so i wouldnt be surprised if there is also a program that can go .SM->DDR edit data format. IMO you cant blame konami for not wanting people to do this, however i do hope there is something else they do... returning to PS/2 memory cards seems most likely, they already know how to do that after all. i know i'm not the only one thats loaded edits on an arcade machine that way, someone else has to have seen a DDR machine with PS memory card slots.

Strange that they seem worried about it, yet have shipped machines in Japan and Asia with USB slots. Maybe there's some kind of difference because our edit data is meant for PC->AC rather than PS2->AC.

Oh well, they seem committed to at least TRYING to get USB to work.

i think that is the big difference, in their eyes anyway. i remember a post on AIJ(i think taren posted it) talking about converting JP edits to US edits. unless our PC edits wont be in the same format as a PS2 edit, they can easily use our program and change the region of the edit. as such, konami is COMPLETELY missing the fact that you can make the edit, change its region, mess with it however you want, put it on your PS2 memory card, import it into your X edit library, put it on the USB.

also, you can skip the middle man and make the edit on DDRX JP, export it from the library, transfer it to your PC, alter it in any way that you could alter our edits, put it back on the card, import it, put it on the USB. this is, of course, provided our edits are the same format this time around.

they think the PS2 is more secure, and for the most part it is because not everyone has the capability to transfer between PS2 memory cards and a PC, but its still very hackable. hell, i remember someone making edits for senorita(speedy mix) and petite love by making the edit to another song of the same BPM, transferring the edits to their PC, changing the song code in the edit, and now they can play edits for songs that never showed up on home versions. even the PS2 card is hackable to hell, so what do they care about USB format?

its not like someone is going to hack the machine to work like R21, people couldnt even make that work for ITG pre R21, roxor had to patch that in. custom songs on the USB is near impossible, and last time i checked no one has added songs to any DDR game anyway, konami's coding for that seems pretty secure, letting us use USB isnt going to hurt anything.

like i said, i do understand their concern for security using USBs, but i think they are overreacting by not using USB support at all in the states. they're going to screw us over, and japan has the capability to hack their shit just like we do. way to go konami, way to go.

They have not said they are scrapping USB. They have said that they are going to try to implement USB, but if they can't, there will be an "alternate solution".

yes, they said they arent scrapping USB yet. they also said the xbox versions wouldnt have any frame rate issues, and have been saying so since UM2s announcement. i'm not getting my hopes up for USB support.

i would HATE for that to happen...well hopefully they do put USB support for X, and also hope that the "alternate solution" be something much more reliable and safe to use other than the USB (not saying USB is bad, but if they are that scared of using the USB, then what other type of disk could they use?)
