It is definitely being played as Encore Extra Stage, since every video of the song has shown that intro before the song, and it blatantly says that it's an Encore Extra Stage. Also, if it was a Challenge course, someone would have made it to the song with two lives by now.

Well that explains it. Actually now that I'm not stupid it's not that the player set the mods on the EES it's that they were set before he finished the Extra Stage. But I just thought the EES was locked at reverse... oh well nevermind me.

Wait how does a Mario (nintendo) brand card work with that? A nintendo mario card working with e-amuse? I don't quite get this. Unless that's actually just like some machines in the usa where they have a card reader for ddr too?

I just played a shit-ton of DDR around 1999-2000, and got friendly with a lot of people who were connected to DDR. Most of the internet from DDR's "boom period" doesn't exist anymore, because Dancingstage.co.uk and Teamgwailo got dwarfed by DDRFreak and DDRUK. I think the PR portion of Konami's original "DDR GeneratioN NexT - We're Starting Over" website still exists, though?

I imagine the 'graduation' part was probably leading to a IIDX-style re-tooling of DDR (something like DDRX), but it lead to Naoki getting moved to the Pop'n Music team, and forming Terra, BeForYou getting an album release. It would be weird if they did another "Last DDR Game" now, because back then, the "DDR All-Stars" were all lounge singers, who were thrilled to do any kind of work, and loved the little bit of exposure that DDR gave them. If they did it now, they'd be running around all these different record labels, trying to get Weronika, Tatsh, Ant Johnson, Dave Rogers, and all these random Doujincore guys, to try and collaborate on some 90-seconds Eurobeat song

I don't think this EES needs anymore excitement.

Although surely the mods you have on the EES are exactly the same as the ones that you have on ES (except for speed which you can change immediately before a song now, right?)

You play on an upgraded oldskool cab, right? In which case you can take a line out from the RCA jacks on the rear of the machine (unless someone has disconnected them from the amp inside the cab), but you probably know that anyway.

Sadly, you can't disable the announcer. :{

Nope. There was never an option to do that IIRC.

there wasnt really any excitement other than seeing the song for the first time IMO. after 7th mix, when you could play kakumei oni at any time, i think it stopped being a big deal. a lot of players could get OMES, a lot of guys were playing on x2 or x3 by then anyway, and all a lot of people cared about was your score rather than your mods. maybe i've just seen OMES/EES so many times i'm not phased by it any more, thats also a possibility.

It doesn't reduce the excitement. The songs are now much harder than they used to be + there is still sudden death in effect. I like the way it is now better because it's a legitimate challenge rather than a stage that's only hard because it's gimmicky with speed mod requirements. How many people were able to clear CANDY* on MAX in the first week as opposed to Valkyrie Dimension on X2?
