Baby Bleep March: ★★★☆
Easy on the streams, and watch how you lead into those drills or you'll pull a Konoko on your players. Some repeated rhythms were stepped faithfully with 16ths in some places and not in others (I'm reminded of The Boys' Speed Highway on this front, actually). Otherwise well-handled.

Colorful Cookie: ★★★
wao we have all these jumps. so many jumps. Other than that it was a fair chart; like most Lucky Vacuum collabs there's just not a lot happening so you don't have too many opportunities to make it especially interesting.

Cry Cry

Flower Dance: ★★
You're new to this, aren't you? Unfortunately you got saddled with a pretty repetitive song, but even if you have to keep the rhythms mostly the same, you should still try to mix up the patterns a bit. Constant right-facing staircases are nobody's favorite thing to do. (Also the chart is a high 8 but that's not one of my judging criteria so w/e)

Have You Never: ★★☆
Conceptually decent, but the sync was so off that you had misplaced gallops. I'd say it's not your fault, but, well, it is your fault.

Hot Air Balloon (Mandora Opening Theme): ★★★★
[Challenge] Started off pretty emptily, but picked up after not too long and stayed interesting (a challenge, given this song!). I enjoyed it.

Magic Girl: ★★★☆
[Challenge] I like most of the chart, but I keep wishing the 8th streams were broken up more. I tried the [Heavy] chart to see if I'd get a better result, and indeed the 8ths were broken up, but then the chart itself was heavily left-facing. I can't win here :<

ナナオシ: ★★★★
[ESP] The first half was basically perfect, but everybody knows I like symmetry so take that with a grain of salt lol. I'm not so sure about the second half. A couple shifted 16ths in the rhythms, some of the offset freeze patterns were a little iffy. On a whole this was quite good though.
[EDP] Some of the rhythmic complaints I had about the ESP went away and got replaced with a funny placement issue in the first half: basically, patterns that put your right foot on 1P R and then your left foot on 2P L tend to be uncomfortable to hit, especially if preceded and followed by two down arrows or two up arrows. However, having it repeated does give the player a little more opportunity to grasp what's going on and work to understand it.

Queen of Rose (Rachel's Theme Song): ★★★☆
[Challenge] Not bad at all. If we're rating on the ITG scale this should probably be an 11, there's a fair quantity of steps in general and that 24th drill is nothing to sneeze at. I'm biting my tongue regarding some of the rhythm choices, but nothing bothered me enough to mention. A couple sudden crossovers in a chart with not that many to begin with.

Rolling in the Nexus: ★★★★☆
OK yeah this was really solid and I loved it. All I have to say for this one is to watch your freeze lengths; there was one freeze near the halfway mark that was like "I'm gonna be a 16th longer than everybody else got dang it"

SEB 4 U: ★★★
This would be at or near the top of my list without the jumps in the verse. Everything else was really good (are those footswitches? dayum), but the jumps really didn't make a lot of sense.

The Club: ★★★☆
Too much following the vocals. I'm not convinced that most of the triplet rhythms are triplets - they actually feel more like regular old 8ths to me. Good handling of the rhythms in the middle section, with just a couple misplaced arrows.

Even though I did not take part in this round, I will still provide everyone with praise, constructive criticism, or rants, whichever necessary. So, let’s get down to the chase.


Candy Galy (Chewi☆)

I thought the patterns you used throughout the song were very generic and unenthusiastic. Candy Galy’s rhythm and melodies provide so many opportunities to a player to make steps that match the overall mood and feeling of the song, and you provided none of that. This file felt extremely rushed, and it felt like you only made it just for the sake of putting it in the contest.

I did not like this simfile.

Verdict: MEDIOCRE


I Fink U Freeky (~SilverStar~)

This song... ugh.

I have to commend you for making some nice steps to a god-awful song. My only complaint is that some of your freeze arrow lengths were a little too long.

Other than that, I think this simfile was made nice, but didn’t really stand out too much. Then again, it was the best you could work with, so I’m going to bump your verdict up a notch. Cool, huh?

Verdict: SWEET


Kaleidoscope (Garik+)

Aww, man, this is your last simfile for this contest?

At least you ended with a bang. No complaints.

Verdict: AWESOME

Aaaaahahahahahahaa

I see you brought your sister along, Ayumi. I’m going to focus only on the Heavy and Challenge charts, since you and your sister made each respectively.

Two versions of MAX 300 with different styles. Ayumi’s chart reminded me of the classic chart while Miya’s chart reminded me of the X-Special. Both of these charts were done very well, and my gosh, they were fun.

If I had to pick which one I liked better, my edge would have to go with Miya.

Verdicts: AWESOME and AWESOME

Oh, no, Tel, why did you have to get THIS song? OH NOOOOOOO

This was probably the worst handled cut in this contest. The legal maximum length of a cut for this contest is 2:30. This happened to be three seconds longer. There’s too much length. TOO MUCH NGAH

I can truly see why you are not proud of this simfile. It’s not hard for me to say that it’s definitely not the best simfile of yours. However, for a guy who was completely screwed, you handled it very well, so I have to give you a special verdict.

Verdict: SYMPATHY


Solitude Sun (Dreamland200)

Some DJ Sharpnel, huh? I’m pretty sure I know who sent you this cut.

After playing Light through Challenge, one thought entered my mind. This is my favorite file, not just for this round, but for the entire contest. This simfile is literally perfect.

Verdict: UNBELIEVABLE


Sorceress Elise (Scarz)

Ooh, damn. Nice BPM changes.

Impressive improvement from your last file. The only thing I didn’t really like about it was the fact it felt like it was a little too repetitive, but what can you do? There wasn’t really anything offered from the song BESIDES THOSE STOPS YOU MADE OMIGOSH YES

It seems we got an underdog here, folks.

Verdict: SWEET


Spoiled Brat Monster (ddrstepper)

Random background videos. You fucking copy cat. Just kidding, haha.

Right, I thought you presented this file very well, but the only thing I had a little problem with is that you may have overdone your steps a tad bit. I mean, yeah, it matched to the song, but it felt a little forced. That’s just me, though. It doesn’t mean I don’t like it, because I did.

Other than that, nice work.

I find it funny that the last simfile I’m reviewing is called THE END.

This is a pretty good simfile. I have no complaints.

On an overall note, besides the fact that the simfile count for this round was lower than usual, I was still pretty satisfied. And with that let’s get down to voting.
