The most positive thing I can say about it is that the casting of Jim Carrey as Eggman is perfect.

That's about it.

I mean... I will say this:

The Angry Birds movie was generally pretty decent and I saw a fair share of people saying the same thing, that it wasn't going to work.

I think this movie has a chance of being interesting. If it turns out it's just a cash cow and lacks any good writing, fair enough.

Well, I mean... Sonic's design is certainly interesting, I'll give it that.
And here I thought some of the Pokemon designs for the Detective Pikachu movie were creepy. This just takes the cake.

Unfortunately, people are going to pay money to see this just to see how bad it is. As much as I want to see Jim Carrey as Eggman (since Ace Ventura is my favorite movie and it seems like he's just playing the same character), don't give these people money, they'll just make more garbage.

I don't think it will be that successful. I struggle to think of a worse time to release a Sonic film (there are very few younger fans and most of the older ones have long since been alienated) and I think Sonic's character design looks way too frightening for younger audiences. If I were seven years old, I wouldn't want to look at that for 85 minutes. On a $90 million budget, it might squeak out a $300 million worldwide box office return which, with marketing costs included, would probably turn a very meager profit. Certainly not enough to fund a sequel, which is where box office returns usually go.
I'm not going to ever watch it so I am not terribly invested in its success, but I have my doubts that it will be a tentpole.

This. The Sonic movie is going to have The Emoji Movie effect where everyone will talk about how it's ruining hollywood while making over 200M in the box office because everyone wanted to see how bad it was.

All of this reminds me of this skit from The Critic.

Everybody hear they're changing the Sonic design? :V I saw one comment wondering if they'd planned this fiasco all along as a publicity stunt, because going back and re-animating everything when the movie is supposed to come out this year seems like work. Even if they have the basic animation rigged together with all the special effects, it puts people into crunch time and leaves less time to fix problems.

I've been eaten alive by the Jojo anime. Help.
