I heard a little something on AIJ... Someone said that there is a DDR in development for the PS3, which is apparently going to be released in 2009. That guy also stated that the main series will stay on PS2, and that PS3 game will be an offshoot like HP and Universe.

The main reason for being hesitant to move the main series to PS3 is the fact that PS3 games have no region locking... and Konami doesn't seem like they really do much with licensing music for worldwide use, preferring to license one region at a time...

i agree with you except for the planet song thing. but we have not seen a single song from Ultramix 4! it's like its being ignored (maybe because Europe never got it). this may just be a guess but since Time Hollow is in DDR X, i have a strange feeling S-A-G-A will be too.

well it's on the plus side for me because i don't have any intentions of getting a PS3 just for DDR. just hope the statement is 100% true. Konami better not change their mind and move on to PS3!

When you release two games around the same time and one of them is the debut game for a console, the other one will be left in its shadow.

As much as I don't want that to happen, Konami will most likely repeat all the SN2 songs (at least the KO's) we haven't already seen.

Meh, you watch, it'll be just like Guitar Hero. Konami will do it on the PS3 with loads of DLC support and suddenly the community will ridicule the 'inferior' PS2 version for only having a measly 70 songs.
Seems like DLC makes or breaks most music and rhythm games these days.

This forum is the only place I'd expect to still talk sense, although it's positive that I'm not the only one who thinks that DDR doesn't really need to go fully next-gen. I can near guarantee that Konami won't use a 25GB blue ray disc to it's full capacity. I bet we will see ~70 song mixes no matter what format it's on.

If they make it like with onle 70 songs on the PS2, then they should put more songs on online play, that if you play them, you get them in your song list to play in everyday use. That would be awesome.

I'd like an excuse to buy a PS3, and the only really good excuse for me is for a native PS3 DDR game to appear, and one well designed. I like the idea of downloadable content - that's the main benefit I see of the PS3/Xbox360 - and also a more robust online game, though so far it seems that Konami doesn't really get downloadable content - maybe Xbox360 owners will find out soon if anything has changed. Also being region free is a nice benefit. One of the potential benefits, if they did it right, is that on the 360 or PS3, you could have one version of DDR, but have access to all songs - many hundreds of songs - via songs loaded on the HDD. That alone would make it worth it.

You're assuming that Konami both understands that mindset and is in a position to capitalize on it.

Urgh no, the PS3 still costs a ton here and I really can't see why they need to go next gen for DDR... it's not as if Blu-Ray discs are cheaper than DVDs at the moment.

I doubt Konami would like to be the only company making PS2 games in the next decade or so. It's going to happen unless they decide to move their main system for DDR games over to the 360.
