anyway, everyone is different when it comes to speeds, and my max speed depends greatly on arrow density. i'll x3 HVAM, but X2 healing vision, because of arrow density, even though HVAM is faster.
Healing Vision
Healing Vision - Angelic Mix
Both 196 BPM
Thing to notice, almost all of 2MB's remixes go at the same speed of their original songs, they just have a stronger and more frequent bass beat.

er, faster in terms of arrow density? I'm not sure how you equate arrow density with speed. That would mean a song on Heavy is faster than the exact same song on Standard because it has a higher arrow density.

And? You have to step more in the same space of time, therefore you are stepping faster. Much like how Healing Vision's rather sparse in terms of steps compared the epic streamfest of HVAM.

Er, if you have a stream of 5 eighth notes, then a stream of 11 eighth notes, both at 192BPM, the speed at which you hit those eight notes is the same since you're not hitting the 11 eight notes in the same time span. Healing vision has shorter streams than Angelic mix, but you don't move any faster in Angelic mix, you just have longer streams of fluid movement.
If a song is 192 BPM, then it takes .15625 seconds for a song to move from one eight note to the next, the approximate amount of time you need to move your foot to the next panel.
If Healing Vision has a stream of 7 eight notes, it will take 1.09375 seconds to hit those notes collectively.
If Healing Vision Angelic mix has 17 eight notes, it will take 2.65625 seconds to hit those notes collectively, but the time between notes is still .15625 seconds.

This is why I just play on x1 exclusively, 100% of the time (except old-school EXTRA STAGE and some ONE MORE EXTRA STAGEs).

The average.................for me.
BPM MOD
Around 50-100 (ex: bag) x 6 +
140-180 (ex: V) x 4
200-230 (ex:Go beyond or Paranoia Evolution) I only wish they made a x 3.5
250 x 3
300 x 2.5
400 x 2
420 x 1.5
etc. etc.

I'm a "ye old" player, so I play on any speed LOWER THAN 2 but higher than 0.5 (I love to play at 1x in SN2 and DDRX)

I use 1.5x for anything up to 240BPM.

I do read around 400 BPM, but if I play x1, my Great count is higher than my Perfect count. If I read at 600 BPM (which apparently is what counts as speed), I can't keep beat anyway.

Oh, I definitely notice that a select speed mod can kick up my score a bit, but overall it's not worth my time to select the mod to tailor to any individual song. My accuracy has never been an issue; I just lack stamina.
I tend to either get at least an A on something, or fail.
Notable exceptions being bag and Healing-D-Vision, which frustrate me, but hopefully no more in X~!

I believe it was 600.
Congratulations, by the way. 1500 posts... wow. If you played a DDR song for every post you've made on this site, you might have gotten better than me by now. Oh well.

old school extra stage would be x1 flat. first mix says hi :p
anyway, i'm noticing a common misconception that speed readers cant play x1, which is just dumb. i love blowing people's minds by playing something at about 650 BPM on the ITG machine, then walking over to extreme and passing something like sorrow. some speed readers were playing on 3rd mix when other people were still in grade school.

Only 650 on the ITG machine?
I was expecting some one to play in the 800's.
FaxX in x 2 ring a bell?
Sorry, I'm just a speed hacker. I can't help it. T_T
Is there a remedy for this?
