Uhh, I'd say it's not really similar at all. Most of Extreme was brought over thanks to sketchy Chinese hackers. They sold many of the kits for much cheaper than Konami so people went with their option instead of buying through Konami. This is being distributed for free.
In any case, at least it could potentially become the new EXTREME as far as distribution goes. The only downside to this is that Konami will probably release a new version anyway, and we'd probably end up with how DDR 2013 was at launch (due to form of an eAMUSEMENT complication (that is, unless the kit has the latest version and/or can somehow magically connect to eAMUSEMENT). Either way, we'll still have it, and it probably won't suck

I think the new interfaces looks cool, but somehow unpolished. It seems, unfinished I guessed? But the simplistic style is also really appealing to the eye visually, it just lacks some of the traditional function. (Yes, it includes a Groove Radar, but it's far less intuitive.)
How is the first DDR 2013 machine in US? Would it be considered legitimate for scores or is it based off of stepmania somehow?

It's not stepmania. It's the real thing running on real hardware.

Uh, not at all. Extreme became ubiquitous because the hardware requirements were the same from 3rd mix. Machines with anything 3rd mix or higher were a dime a dozen. That is not the case for 2013. It requires Python3 hardware which is incredibly hard to come by. (There are ways to get around this but not for public arcades, and not yet.)
As far as the rest of what you said... I'm not sure if you understand how this works exactly.

Well, I don't. I knew beforehand that Extreme machines were never officially transported to America; I just didn't really take hardware requirements for Extreme or 2013 into consideration (I was also caught up in the idea of DDR 2013 machines being everywhere, seeing as how Extreme machines are everywhere). Although, it makes me curious how Game Underground was able to a Python 3, let alone the software. As far as the rest of what you said... I'm not sure if you understand how this works exactly.

There are sources in Japan that can get you access to hardware and software, but it's a very exclusive club, so to speak. You need to know a guy who knows a guy who knows a really sketchy guy.
The hardware has been at GU for a while and only recently has the software been available to those in the US that can distribute it. There are a few arcades with official hardware, some of which (CTF, Gemini, SVGL) bought machines with those kits directly from Japan, enabling them to upgrade to 2013 in the near future. As for how other arcades have sourced their kits, I have little idea. All I know is that it's not as simple as ordering one online, or waiting for one to pop up on eBay/YAJ.
The machines will receive the same updates as machines in Japan, but are not tied to eAMUSE at all. All their network traffic is done on a private network.
As for Golden Sky, well fuck. I like that song.

Is the first mid-cycle removal of a song in DDR2013? I was really hoping the game would stay what it is until the new interface is pushed out...

Indeed it is. I thought it would take at least a year before we saw content removed, but I guess this is a fairly old license anyway.

They didn't announce a date for the new interface; there's a moderate chance it could be that date. Also, I was surprised that Golden Sky and Butterfly X remained in 2013 after Butterfly 1st and all versions of BOYS disappeared, and I'm still surprised Butterfly X survived. Enjoy it while you can I guess.

You'd think the tweet would be about the new interface and the Golden Sky removal would just be a sidenote to that. In any case, if the new interface isn't delivered on 2/27 I think there's a good chance that will be the last update to the old interface.

My first thought is they would roll it out on 3/14, the date the game was released last year. Make it an even year and whatnot.

Looks like the official site got an update today, something to do with rivals from the look of it. Maybe the new interface really is imminent between this and the Golden Sky removal. Where there's smoke, there might be fire...

From google translate, I pieced together that maybe the Rivals feature in E-AMUSE was down, and should be up now. Here's the post from the website incase anyone can read japanese better than google.

Should we be unsurprised or relieved that it's not a 19?

I'm half and half. Can't do 19s, so that's good, but we haven't had one ever since X3. Maybe a 19 will be released when the new UI comes out.
