I have a question. In 2nd mix mode, does If You Were Here have the original cut from 2nd mix or the new cut from DDR X2? (Just like in Hero's case)

In 2ndMIX Mode the 2ndMIX cuts and original steps are used. (A lost opportunity in my opinion) But if you go into the normal game mode you can still play the X-edits and such... assuming they're all still there.

You do know that they used the X-edit of Hero in 2nd mix mode, right?

X-edit chart without Freeze Arrows, LOL!!! You are un-freaking-believable Konami.
I can't find a video of IF YOU WERE HERE on 2ndMIX Mode.

Wan: I guess that answers my question.
Aaron: I'm pretty surprised myself. Where's the fun in using the x-edit in 2nd mix mode if it's already in X3 mode?
I just saw Paranoia Max's doubles chart. It does deserve to be a 13-footer in difficult. So many taps and crossovers. I haven't seen the expert chart but it's an 11-footer in DDR X. (One of the rare songs where charts are easier on a harder difficulty)

I'm just going to say that I find that the large majority of new Konami originals (the new ones from DDR2010/II) suck major balls (with very few exceptions) compared to the new ones that debuted in X3. I'd personally like to see more of the latter.

I still don't under why the characters are so tiny in 2nd Mix mode. I've seen video of 2nd mix and they were not that small.

I'm just going to reiterate this point since many modern players don't know it. For anything from 1st,2nd, and the Club mixes, there was no double maniac mode, the double another mode *was* the maniac so the stepchart creators treated it as such. As a result, for those songs revived in later mixes, the standard double chart is actually harder than the double expert in some cases, or at least as challenging.
There are still crowds playing here where I play but what I have noticed recently is a number of random older songs are being played more and more except by the absolute newcomers or casual players just trying something new. A lot of the songs seemed to come from X (mostly the Butterfly/Boys X-edits). It was always amusing that X was the game that revived the series in Japan and brought it back from obscurity for a while, as opposed to everywhere else in the world where...it did not receive the same affection.
I recorded the most recent Top 30 eAmuse songs on video and I'll post them later but nothing has changed since my last post *except* when I check it on the Extra stage, the most played songs are #1 Unbelievable, #2 Amalgamation, #3 Memeshikute

They're using the same animations as in X3 mode, aren't they?Which was kind of just an all-around bad looking idea... surely, they have the old animations somewhere that they could've just stuck in.

And SN was... not as special? :D... I mean, it didn't have a new design or anything but it was the one that was more hyped up over here... it seemed.Post #2792 · Posted at 2012-02-13 06:09:13am 13.4 years ago

Because the background animations in everything up to 5th mix were dynamically generated patterns (the dancing models were rendered in real-time) .
Still, that is no excuse for the characters to be tiny on X3 (unless they have fixed it with the latest eAmuse update) unless they forgot to expand the dimensions/scale for the larger res/screen. Surely there is enough processing power for that unless they used several million polygon's for Afro's hair or something.
Oh, SN1 was special, too as a kind of mini-revival though it never did reel in all the newcomers and casual gamers the first mixes did. It's just that X brought back a lot of casual gamers to the series.

It would be nice if they put Dread and Janet in X3 mode just like in Afro and Lady's case in DDR X. I can't stand them being tiny either in 2nd mix mode.

I would think it's just a size resolution error when going to 16:9 HD. I would think they would have fixed this by now but I don't know.Do we know if the dancers are small on the upgrade cabs too?

Yes, they're just as small. The video posted earlier on this page shows an upgrade cab on X3.

Play any game in the X series and watch the dancers. Half the time, the camera is showcasing the stage, not just the dancers. So sometimes the dancers are background noise or sometimes not even in frame. This is what's happening in 2ndMIX Mode, they're using the same camera routines but without a stage so it seems as though the dancers are way smaller than they should be or not even there at all. The camera on the first DDR games was programmed way differently, focusing solely on the dancers themselves and they simply didn't want to have to re-code the old camera system from scratch (Among other things).
For all the effort they put into 2ndMIX Mode, it's really under-baked.

And didn't they announce at one point that work on X3 has begun even before X2 was released?
Half-baked indeed.

X3 IR just started. It's too early to proclaim all of X3 as "half-baked".

I'm pretty sure we were talking about 2ndMIX Mode specifically.
To draw up a list:
- STRICTLY BUSINESS, straight up missing.
- HERO, using the X-edit music and steps (without Freeze Arrows).
- Stomp to my beat, banner typo (JS1B, fixed).
- KUNG FU FIGHTING, banner typos ("featuring" is missing & CARL DOLGLAS).
- Dancing characters using X3's routines making them tiny or off the screen.
- Other UI glitches.
- X announcer pokes in during some of the menu transitions.
Did I miss anything? Some of these are just weird. Yes they fixed Stomp to my beat's banner... but that's it. It makes it seem like JS16 sent an angry letter to Konami about it and that's what it took to actually give a care and correct it.
