I'm not sure I'd call Chance It "average". Rhythms were fine for the most part. For me, it was more of the awkward patterns. Most of the patterns worked out okay, but the placement of arrows in some sections was confusing. I'd give you specific areas, but I don't have access to StepMania at the moment.

I visualize how my files will go by tapping my feet on the excess space below my desk when I make simfiles.

Double-stepping being the repetition of steps from before, but turned? Still haven't exactly found out what double-stepping entails.

From what TaroNuke once told me:
Quote
A doublestep is the use of one foot to hit two arrows in a row.
It can be used well, but a lot of the time it's really jarring and can really break a chart's flow.
For example, the measure 22/23 contains a single doublestep, because you do an RDL, then staircase LDUR, which is fine, but then the next steps go LU, which is very jarring because I was already facing right from RDL, and I don't want to spin around at that speed onto the next arrows. Because I try to crossover everything, this ends up fucking up a potential PFC or even FC when it occurs on pad, unless I doublestep (use the same foot to hit two arrows), which isn't as much fun.

Ok, I got it. Yes, I use a lot of doublesteps, and shouldn't use as many. Probably the main reason that ends up occuring is because I play on keyboard with an unconventional arrow setup of F, Y, J, and B, and doublestepping isn't near as much of an issue as it can be on pad.
Edit: Wait, you're stepping all of Undertale? That sounds really cool, can't wait too see the finished product!

The benefit of a simfile contest like this, you get to learn what you're good at and what may need work, especially when you're working with stuff that's out of your comfort zone. Always room to improve.
Post #270 · Posted at 2015-11-18 03:01:43am 9.5 years ago
Here's a visual example of what a double-step looks like, for anyone else that might need it:
(R indicates Right Foot, L indicates Left Foot)
Notice that on the 5th note in this sequence, you'll have to rotate your body to the side in order to hit that note without using your left foot again. This is fine on it's own, but ideally the next arrow should be Up so you can start leading the player back into the "facing forward position". (You could also do Right followed by Down and Left if you want to get real fancy; this is difficult though so don't overuse it). But the 6th note is Down, which would force you to face backwards if you want to keep alternating your feet. And given the rest of the notes in this sequence, you'll be playing backwards for quite some time. Most players will instead hit the 5th note with their left foot to avoid having to face backwards, hence the term "double-step".

Without any context, most unsuspecting players would start on their right foot, sure, but say you add a Left and then an Up arrow before the first arrow. Then you would start on your left foot instead and the sequence just turns into a simple crossover without the need for any double-stepping.
Geez, with all this discussion going on, now I'm questioning myself whether or not I should remove all the double-steps in my latest submission. Then again, one could easily use ghost-stepping to avoid all of them, so maybe it's not so bad/awkward at all; plus, it adds to the fun, I'd say.

Actually, the note just before was a LR jump (this screenshot is taken straight from Chance It), I probably should have included that for the sake of context. But what you said is entirely true.

Ok, I'm still unclear about this, am I allowed to re-cut the song I was given?
Post #274 · Posted at 2015-11-18 04:52:18am 9.5 years ago
Unless the cut is offsync, no.
If it's offsync, I'll contact the filemaker for the full cut, then you'll do the cutting. Make sure that your cut has the same sections as the original cut. Send it to a host for confirmation.

It's not offsync, I just don't want steps that go to nothing. I understand.

Silly me, I just realized that these steps did come from Chance It (looking at the files now, since I'm not participating in Round A), hence the LR jump, but yeah, context still matters a lot.
Anyway, I just made a few small changes to my file that I hope will turn out for the better.
Please re-download if you downloaded the file before.

VOTES
NOTES
* Please strive to avoid doublesteps in continuous patterns where there is no musical basis for them.
* Please also strive to avoid patterns that face the same direction for too much of the song.
* Rock The Club SX is a pretty tricky 12. Jumper SH is a very annoying 11. sharaku needs to chill.
* I hereby nominate Silly Ho for the most unique experience of the round.

I'm curious, what does a rating of ".." mean instead of 0? I'd like to hear more opinions about what I can do better. (Referencing "Quaver" in particular)

You had quaver, right? Unfortunately you drew the short straw from the music pile (the track mostly follows eighth note, or quaver, rhythms with very few ornaments) You could also spice it up a bit more, by removing some notes to highlight the melody, but your hands are tied with this song - there's not much opportunity to show your stepping abilities
