Chimera
Wake Up

La Code
A few of those were so close it's unbelievable. I can't stress enough how good Chimera is, and even people who aren't following the tournament should go check it out. Also, I have no fucking clue how something like Overflowing Emotions can be made in under a week o.O

Ladymade Star was really good :{
The song choice is good, the song is overcharted, but it's overcharted well, so that's actually a bonus, because it's such a chilled out song.
I think the main thing is that you made a tight, technical song, and came up against a very free-flowing song, full of streams that lead into each other. Both songs were pretty much the same in terms of presentation, and since the charts are almost exact opposites of each other, the only way you can really compare them is to say "which song is more fun to play?".
I don't know how to make good simfiles, so I don't really know how to explain what I thought was wrong with it, but :
When you think about "what kind of chart goes to this song?", there are obviously plenty of options. You've found all the options, and made use of all of them, to make the steps varied throughout the song. That's obviously a good thing, but I think you've gone a little overboard with the variety, so the song loses it's "shape", if that makes sense? It feels like it's split up into stages, insteaf of flowing from one section to the next.
That means you come up with a song that has a lot of depth, and either encourages or forces the player to play the song multiple times, before they understand it well enough to PA it.
I liked it, but when it comes down to "which song did I have the most fun playing?", the free-flowing streamy song you came up against is a lot easier to pick up and have fun playing.

One thing everyone has to remember is that not voting for one person's file doesn't mean it's a bad file. You can have two way awesome files, but one will edge out the other. Once we get closer to the final round, the simfiles will be really good and be harder to judge (or so I hope).

"ya did good, kiddo" |
Hahaha, someone voted for my horky borky overflowing emotions chart. <333 Tyma.
Unfortunately, I probably won't be making more of this crap, since people seem to like "regular" charts more ):
I'm still waiting for people to tell me exactly what's wrong with it other than the fact that it might have frustrated them to hell and back :V
I'm sure I'll get a reasonable answer.
(I love gimmicks, I also love 10+es, so eh)
JUDGEMENT TIME!
Love is a Danger Zone 2 vs. Xlasher:
LiaDZ2: ASDHS Spins. I Like how you used the music to make the motion required predictable, and sooner rather than later, it was committed to muscle memory. Good stuff xD I'll probably cock up and expect spins next time I play this song on pump when I go to the trocadero. That is, if I'm not too busy drowning in 16ths. The crossovers flowed very nicely, too.
Xlasher: Aside from the obvious earliness issue from before, which has now been fixed, this is a solid chart. Some of the 16ths took me by surprise, so I'm tempted to call this a 9 even though it only has 331 steps. Check for a few doublesteps/ambiguous steps.
Vote: Love is a Danger Zone. Sorry Xlasher, LiaDZ2 is just slightly better put together. I LOVE how you followed the music in the section with the holds (also HO YEAH)
Melody vs. Overflowing Emotions:
Melody: I going to take the fact that you charted one of my favourite songs of all time as some kind of personal psychological attack. This isn't really how I would have charted the song, (you follow different aspects of the song to what I would have followed, at different times) but still, the difficulty and patterns are appropriate and overall the chart has a nice linking feel. At times, the placement of the double taps felt somewhat random, and there are a couple of misleading steps (that I attribute to me sucking at crossover rather than them actually being misleading) towards the end.
Overflowing Emotions: What on earth was that person thinking? This chart is a total cluste- wait
Maria vs. Chimera
Maria: WHERE ARE MY 16TH STREAMS!?
I don't know, something about having played the original before makes this chart feel like it needs way more steps ): sorry mang
Chimera: {WARNING: INCOMING HYPOCRISY} Man, I really like that this chart didn't have all the 16ths and hands from the original!
I really enjoyed this chart. Not a fan of how you randomly change the sounds you're following, but the steps work really well for what they are, and the crossovers are really well thought out. Also, something about the general speed of ~200bpm 8ths works really well in charts in general, for me.
I made a chimera chart too some time ago. It was an ITG 13 with hands. I'm glad this is not that chart.
Vote: Chimera. For Pandemonium X: The 16ths and hands in (any version) of Chimera CZ are just too hard to be any fun at all to me. I have no hope in hell of passing either of the original Chimera CZs. While, the 16ths in Maria are flowing and really fun to hit, and I can actually 97% Maria CZ on Pump it Up PRO. That and your Maria has lots of long empty sections where there could be more steps because you took out the 16ths.
Did somebody say "long empty sections"? *Looks at own chart*
Grave Consequence vs. ¬(Grave Consequence)
Grave Consequence: Man, this is exactly the kind of chart I enjoy most. Though I would say this is a borderline 10 in places (cough ending cough) I do think this is a very enjoyable chart, and one I will probably play again at some point because of its well moderated challenge.
Some other song: I quite enjoyed this (Hea) chart, especially the stream towards the end.
The crossover in this song works better as a unit, rather than grave consequence's fragments of crossover.
The hands in the (Cha) make sense too, also +for skipping a beat in order to allow a decent recovery time before resuming the chart as normal.
P.S. I don't really consider In The Groove to be "other music game", since it's technically Stepmania :troll:
Vote: Wake up. (Voting for Grave Consequence is a lost cause at this point anyway :V [And Wake Up IS a better put together chart])
By Chance vs. Beautiful Girl
Beautiful girl: The very definition of not my style of music.
I was convinced that those 3 steps after a jump and before the 5 16ths are misleading and/or doublesteps about half the time.
After a few play/restarts, I was like "never mind", as I eventually got that gaps mean "reset your position".
Without this knowledge, it feels like there's a misleading step around every corner that wants me to fall over ):
At least it kept it interesting.
By Chance: 10 - HAHAHA WHAT (Passed it though!) (Asshole jumps. On top of the obvious 24th rape)
(Also, though I can't play doubles [one pad], I still watched it [Autoplay]. I spat my drink at measure 51. +25 lol points)
By Chance: 9 - I guess it's not my style of music, but it feels like this song goes on a little too long. This somehow made the patterns less appealing to me? I dunno lol. The stream is nice though.
I keep putting myself into the wrong position in those bits near the end even though I know I shouldn't
what do
Did somebody say "goes on a little too long"? *Looks at own chart* [Though I cut mine down myself and didn't want to cut it any further]
Vote: Beautiful girl.
45 Rotations vs. Duke Nukem Forever: The Simfile
45 Rotations: Wow, the sync is impeccable, and the patterns flow very nicely, all of the crossover makes sense without being boring, and the chart overall was a pleasure to follow. I actually managed a score of 98.45 on it! That's like my highest score out of the whole tournament!
..Probably my highest score of all time maybe...
EDIT: Nope, I just remembered I got 98.80 on "I can Walk on Water I can Fly" (Expert - 9 from MungyoDance 3) at the MCM Expo in October 2010 :3
Duke Nukem Forever: The Simfile: Holy fucking shit, this is hands down the best simfile I have ever played. The sync is so good, that I didn't even have to try to quad star this song after a few attempts. It's like it adjusted its timing window to my steps. Even with that said, this is one of the most technical charts out there. That 16th stream mine run near the end was nuts, and definitely cements this song's rating as a solid 13. I saw crossovers that I had never even SEEN before, yet instinctively knew exactly which way I should have been facing the whole time. The spins were as easy to grasp and totally fitting as Pump it Up's, and there was a truly masterful use of negative BPMs at the halfway point, with the fake notes to keep the player from getting too confused. My one complaint with this is that the song ended. ):
Vote: Duke Nukem Forever: The Simfile. Without a doubt.
First Kiss vs. Forever Love
Forever Love: (Cha) what
Forever Love: (Hea) I really really enjoyed this, a lot. The stream was great fun! The crossover was very consistent and flowing, but I mostly just loved all the stream.
First Kiss: Solid simfile, but what's up with all those spins on staggered 16ths? They're like my biggest weakness, and the amount of variation in their timing/complexity with in a single one was not making it any easier. The whole thing was easier to double step hahaha. I like the song though.
Vote: Forever love.
Ladymade Star vs. La Code de Bonne Conduite
Wow, now these are two simfiles it's hard to compare...
Ladymade Star: Oh how I love this song. This is another one of those simfiles that I'll feel compelled to return to. It's great. There are a couple of doublesetps that really stand out to me. But otherwise, the crossover is very technical and a lot of fun to step out. Those jumps really went a long way towards fixing my orientation too xD well placed. Despite the pace of the song, and despite the fact that I probably wouldn't put them there myself if I were charting, I feel the 16ths actually fit right in, and add another layer of depth to your chart. Good job.
Also, one of the few artists to have a name show up in the "Steps by:" field. (stepsDescription())
La Code de Bonne Conduite: French! Yay!
The steps overall worked well. Yay for non asshole jumps :3 Crossover somewhat simple, especially compared to Ladymade but still enjoyable. The song choice also provided a nice variety of rhythms, which kept the chart interesting and varied. Faaar less doublestep than Ladymade.
I must know, from which game this originated.
Vote: La Code de Bonne Conduite.

Unnecessarily? No. Your post is far more valuable an useful than the posts by the people that only post their votes. Competitions like this should be a way for people to get reviews of their files, even short reviews. So keep up the good work.Post #270 · Posted at 2011-02-20 06:39:24am 14.3 years ago

Ya know, I was thinking that if Maria had kept the 16ths I would have been leaned more towards it. Without it the song felt... different.

Ladymade Star is overcharted? D:
Ahh, I was avoiding End of the Moonlight on purpose for that reason...
As for the style, yeah I will usually split up the steps into sections following the song (like A-B-A or A-B-C-A). The song didn't really lend itself to continuing one pattern throughout. OK, so some people might not like complicated charts. I'll remember that.
@Taro: Ah, thanks! I was focusing a lot on positioning for this song (basically anti-ITG1) so it's good to know my jumps worked well. I wanted to make more of the chart rhythmically complicated like the 16th section (and therefore lead into a Challenge chart), but some sections like M37 (after the hands) didn't have a clear synth rhythm. So instead of making a fun 16th section that might not follow the song as well (see A Brighter Day

By the way, I do not consider two notes "double-steps" if they are at least a beat apart. That should be more than enough time to react, and being a beat apart indicates a separate phrase so they're meant as another way to reposition the player.
My reviews coming soon; still checking out the others.

I hate to be a me-too, but after seeing the simfiles I think I found what most people liked about what they voted. But I'll concede some minority votes anyway. Here we go:

By the way, I do not consider two notes "double-steps" if they are at least a beat apart. That should be more than enough time to react, and being a beat apart indicates a separate phrase so they're meant as another way to reposition the player.
They may mean "reposition", but that doesn't mean I do it xD I'm used to charts that keep positioning during gaps (like a lot of the r21 charts) so I keep my positioning instinctively, which trips me up. Also, there's the fact that I don't KNOW if they want me to keep my position - as some of them aren't doublesteps. I guess knowing the song is important.

I thought people didn't like my 1st song because it was too much, now Maria is too little?

I didn't not like your first chart because it was too much - I (minorly) didn't like your first chart because I felt it was misrated (not a 9).
Also see Kyzentun's comment about doublesteps.
The 16ths are an integral part of Maria's chart in my honest opinion.

Not to hark on how you vote, but it kind of defeats the point of the contest if you vote for the underdog even if you liked the other file better.

I think that's only because PIU put them in there. The 16ths don't go to anything audible in the music.
