Played the game; my impressions iirc:
-Better than X2 in almost every way
-Nailed the license list, most are easy, but at least are stepped decently
-Announcer is alright
-Stages=great
-Routines got a bit better
-I still hate that you have to press A before every song
-Loading still takes longer than the PS2 counter parts
-Unlocking isn't as tedious as X2
-Interface greatly improved, though im still not digging the background
-Still needs edit mode
-Gimmicks still suck
-KO list is good, steps are up to the standards the songs are too
-Mods are still a pain in the ass to change
-More timing options would be nice
-Characters look a little better this time around
-The combo videos, though I believe they can be turned off, are distracting as hell and blend in in many cases with the default skin (not so much a problem for me since you can disable them, just a design flaw)
-Definitely the best of the HP series

In other events/discoveries about this game, apparently You Are A Star forces that DDR training stage when you pick it (which IMO is hell if you use the rainbow noteskin like I do). It also CANNOT be AAAd the conventional PFC way, meaning you have to do it with gimmicks turned on. What's the gimmick you ask? Diagonal Arrows! Hope those DDR Solo 6 panel skills (that I never quite got down mind you) haven't rusted away completely, you're gonna need them. Aside from the boss songs, we could be looking at one of the hardest if not THE hardest AAA in the Wii list.
Huh, I haven't seen that gimmick. That would make a pretty cool video.
EDIT: Oh right, it would help if I searched for the right song. Here's an example... and now I can say holy crap awesome

WHY did they have to leave out Edit Mode and doubles on an otherwise perfect game?

That's a question I'm still trying to figure out myself, especially with the whole direction change they've made between HP2 and this. With Free Play being completely feet only, it didn't make any sense to me anymore to leave that stuff out.
I've got a video of the Expert chart for You Are A Star with gimmicks up. OMG, why didn't they do this for at least another 4 songs in the game other than Kimono Princess and Roppongi Evolved (which I want to try this way) It's a lot of fun, and dare I say it I prefer it over the regular chart.

Not necessarily, as they probably wouldn't have ported shock arrows.

Nope, but in place of that we get sudden arrows and double stomp for gimmicks. Given that missing a sudden arrow puts all the arrows on sudden, I'd have to say it could probably get to be just about as bad, especially with the double stomps in the 440 sections.

This talk of gimmicks reminds me of Mario Mix, where if you kept missing some gimmick elements (boos, freezies) a giant version would gradually fill the screen, providing an increasing Sudden that you had to beat back down with Fire Flowers or stomped Boos. That's the closest I've seen to having a Sudden offset in DDR.

Sudden arrows are actually the replacement for screen block/big boo/freezie as of HP2. (this was how I realized DDRDG was using the HP1 engine) It largely works the same way, except it actually applies the sudden mod more and more as you miss. They can also be a little trickier to spot.
Speaking of which, apparently Pluto The First was the only song in HP1 to use two gimmicks, the rest of them only used one.
Anyways, roppongi Evolved (all three of them) use the diagonal arrow gimmick. I think I'm gonna have to give that a shot.
edit: Complete save file up over at Gamefaqs. It took them long enough...

I have a question that's on my mind about this game and the former version. Will HP3 pads work on HP2? Are there any significant differences between the pads from the bundles? If the answer to the first is yes and the answer to the second is no, I may buy HP2 and HP3 bundles.

All the pads in the bundles should work regardless of the Wii game. I don't believe there are any differences between pads that are in the HP1, HP2, DG, or HP3 bundles.

Shouldn't the Mario Mix pad work too? I haven't tried it with HP1 and left it back home, but I don't see why it wouldn't since it has a GCN plug.
And DDR Addict I've been meaning to ask you, what do you have against Remember You? It's a good song =P

It was a joke I made. First off, assuming Dancer2 is an expert, he wouldn't want to play Remember You (LEVEL 5). Also, playing along with a little kid is embarrassing! I like the song, but the steps? I'll pass.
ON TOPIC: How exactly do you unlock songs in this game?
EDIT:Changed it to A Little Less Conversation, which I think nobody will mind.
EDIT:Better safe than sorry. I'll remove the sig.

Yeah, pretty sure that one works too.

I guess this game with pad is going to be $49.99 at Game Crazy stores from 11/27-11/29. Sure beats the normal price for the game.

So how's the bundled pad compared to X2's? I had to return that one once (almost considered doing it the second time too) due to arrows sometimes not responding the same damn day I got the pad.

Quite simple for a Japan DDR but it works I suppose.
