Overall, I agree that WORLD is a huge refresh that was sorely needed, there's some minor stuff that I would love for them to amend though

Unfortunately I won’t be able to play Dance Dance Revolution WORLD anytime soon because the nearest round 1 near me is about 8 hours away from my area. Maybe since it is named world they can bring it to smaller arcades. Well for now I will just watch other people play.

Sound Voltex has both dan courses and flare rank, albeit with different names for both ("skill analyzer" and "volforce") so I imagine DDR will keep both.
Guess I was wrong. Sad!

Also, I've only been skimming this thread so apologies if I missed it, but it looks like they're playing more with Shock Arrows on charts besides Challenge after the Undertale songs did that in A3 - 人マニア has them on Standard and Heavy and does NOT have a Challenge chart.

oof, another con Sad
I remembered after posting this that A3 also didn't launch with a class mode, so there's still hope I guess...? The lack of a Nonstop mode doesn't inspire confidence, though.

I can't say I'm too fussed about whether I think visually the UI "looks good" or "looks bad", since I know that as a human, change will make me feel uncomfortable initially but I'll get used to it. However, at least so far with this version it feels like my experience as a player is just less satisfying and motivating.

-It seems like it takes more effort / button presses to change song display by level. If I just wanted to go from say level 14 to 15 it used to be

[up+down] - down - enter

Now it's

6 - enter (assuming it's already on the level filter) - down down right right right - enter - right - enter - 7 - 7

And when changing levels is something I do so often, these button presses really add up and make the song selection feel much more like a chore for me. I know it's a first world problem and the trade off is that now there's more sophisticated filtering if you really want to hone in on some set of songs, but just for me I only really care about level and then finding a song that interests me or that I'm trying to get a better score on. I change levels a lot, like in a warm up set picking songs like 12->13->14->15, and so the added button presses feels like so much more friction when ultimately I just want to pick a song, play, and have fun. I suppose I could have the filter be set on multiple levels at once, but then I'll have like three times as many songs to scroll through, plus I probably already know what particular level I want to play.

EDIT: actually, I think it will remember where the cursor is selected on the level filter, so not as many button presses as above. But still more friction

-Can't double tap up or down on the pad to change difficulty. Numpad is fine, but it was nice to be able to double tap on the pad, such as when the other player is picking the song and you don't feel like walking up to the cab just yet, and really just the physical feeling feels nice and makes you feel "like a DDR player".

-Can't change scroll speed in the first few seconds of the song starting. Sometimes I change my mind about scroll speed, so the option was nice.

-Pressing 9 opens or closes the options for both players. Just more awkward now instead of letting each player spend the time they need to change options.

-When you're hovered over a song in song select, the song title below the song art gets replaced by "Enter". I was initially confused and thought the song name was Enter before I realised I need to look at the top of the screen to see the song name. Feels counterintuitive personally. Like I'm looking at the songs right in front of me, why is the name for the selected song only at the top.

-I really liked how distinctive difficulties and scores were visually in A3 compared to here. On song select, your scores for a song for each difficulty are in a big box, with big numbers and the difficulty numbers have noticeable colours behind them representing the difficulty. Now they're in a smaller box and the difficulty name and number are just in white. I think a lot of players play for high score and are proud of their scores and in some sense implicitly want to show them off, such as to fellow players spectating, so it's less satisfying that they're less prominent on song select. Similarly during gameplay or the song result screen, the difficulty name not being coloured makes it harder as a player or spectator to identify the difficulty.

-Song select feels a bit cramped for me. Used to be could see 9 songs at once in addition to the song title at the top, now it's more like 6 songs at once or 9 but the top songs get covered by the title text. They also seem to take up less horizontal space. Not a big deal, just not my preference.

-Would like the option to have all dark lane instead of forced character on the lane.

Anyway, at the end of the day I'm just happy and always grateful to play DDR so it's not like these things are ruining my day or are going to stop me from playing. The bigger problem for me is that my local arcades aren't very good at maintaining their pads. But just for me personally, my playing experience has felt less smooth and satisfying so far. Hopefully it'll feel better with time.

the change in general has a little bit of everything, on the one hand the interface although it feels new, it feels too simple in some things, although in the DDRA era I only liked the first interface and a little bit the A3 one, it feels like they left aside the graphic part and focused on the functional news, in general it feels good, I'm not very used to the colors they chose for the interface, it was surprising that they eliminated the characters and what they did with the background videos, but nowadays people play that way, although it doesn't seem bad at all, it should be something that players could choose, the announcer disappoints me a little, because it is the announcer of disney grooves of wii, or if it is not it sounds very similar, that's why it has practically the same lines of the announcer of ddrx, the change is good, but I think it still lacks many things, things that probably we will only see in a stepmania theme, which by the way at graphic level is very simple this time (I don't want to be tempted to do it) Laughing Out Loud .

It's what they should always do, to cater towards casual audiences and newcomers.

"I LOVE PURPLE"
random thought, but why does the new announcer say "don't push your luck?" like, how is that encouraging?

Not as bad as Crackin' DJ!:

"Don't make the same mistakes again!"
"Your technique could use some work!"
"That was good, but not that good!"

“You suck!” -Paula Terry, DDR Extra Mix

Edit: I actually can't find this sound clip now that I'm looking for it, but I swear I head it. Maybe I'm just misremembering. I did find "you're a loser" in the sound files though, and ouch lol.

Is there any proof that the female DJ/announcer in DDR Solo is Paula Terry?

To my knowledge, this DJ appeared in the following games:
DDR Solo Bass Mix
DDR Solo 2000
DDR Extra Mix
Dancing Stage Fever (PS1)
Dancing Stage Fusion (PS1)

While she didn't have many lines, she sure had an attitude!

I don't know. I've just heard it said before and took it at face value.
