It's the holy month of Ramadan, of which I'm sure violence is prohibited, so if he went and killed 50 people he certainly wasn't a very devout practicer of Islam.

So typical of the American right to turn a homophobic hate crime into Islam and terrorist fearmongering.

Was not religious (responding to a previous version of the post from Arrows&Beats); it's entirely possible he changed for the worse after pledging to ISIS.

Also, regardless of whether or not violence is prohibited during the month of Ramadan (which I hope it is), there are still instances of terrorist attacks from radical Islam groups during this period (and in fact, Muslims seem to have historically fought many battles during Ramadan).

Either way, I hope the guy's connection to ISIS doesn't diminish the significance of everything that's happened in Orlando. Crying "TERRORISM!!!" over the whole thing doesn't help matters, or change who the victims were. Yes, it's a part of what happened, but not the entire reason.

While there's nothing explicitly prohibiting violence during ramadan, Muslims are encouraged to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam. Historically, violence tends to decline during this time, but that doesn't mean a few incidents won't occur. In this case it's not religious, but there have been times when an act of violence was clearly fueled by religious beliefs.

I've seen with nearly all of these incidents that the public reaction is to point the finger and blame a specific group or thing, because it's an easier thing to do than actually attempt to do anything to stop these things from happening in the first place.

I think that it is simultaneously true that regular Muslims are too quickly and irrationally labelled terrorists by people, and also true that Islam as an ideology deserves some criticism for encouraging violence in situations, and intolerance of certain groups of people like homosexuals. This is also true of Christianity.

So typical of the American left to turn a blatant terrorist attack into something else entirely to further their own agendas.

It does get frustrating when the media shoehorn the word terrorism into whatever they can but if the dude who kills a bunch of people is whiter than an eminem album that word strangely disappears
