On the topic of voting, I assume you're not allowed to give any one file more than 5 points? It's not explicitly stated in the first post, though I don't expect anyone to want to dump 15 points in one file anyway. but hey

What I'm wondering even more is why the point spread has to be limited to only five files again. Being able to give points to more files hasn't been an issue since 2015.

I agree that it seems especially a weird choice in a contest with 40 simfiles in one round, because there's a good chance there won't be a full 23 that have votes to pass. I'm keeping receipts on anyone who voted with or intended to use a point spread just in case the worst case scenario ends up happening so we can get that rule officially repealed.

I'd really like to know what the logic was in limiting votes to 5 files max. It honestly doesn't make much sense to me either.


Only three people have voted so far and there's already 13 different files with points, I don't think we're going to see a situation like this thankfully.

One more vote for the "5 files only isn't something I really like" train, it really would have helped this round for me since I would have given less points each to more files since honestly nothing really really gripped me this round.

So one file getting 15 points is a little extreme. However if voting did not already start, I would likely drop the 5 songs tops rule. Maybe have something like 5 is the max points you can give to one file.

I'll think this over during SC, but we're too far into BR now to change it.

Wasn't this already the rule in SC15/16? I can't remember anyone ever giving more than 5 points.

I honestly like the rule. It's stops people from giving +1s and +2s to like 10 different files, and it allows people to have to think a lot more on who to give their votes to.

Sure, it may force us to really think about what we give points to, but some of the time, I don't necessarily think that many files "deserve" more than 1/2 points. I agree with warpdr!ve's sentiment regarding distributing less points to more files. Under most circumstances, it's really difficult to get a +5 (or even a +4) from me. Rarely are there files that are "+5 quality" in my book. But when the number of files I am able to give points to is limited (i.e. second half of Simfile Shuffle and this competition) I'm almost forced give +4s/+5s to files that I don't think reach that tier of quality (or stand-out-ness, or whatever other word that expresses significant enjoyment).

And like Gameoson said, this rule wasn't in place during the last couple of SCs ('15,'16). I don't quite understand why it was brought back. Everyone seemed content with having the freedom to distribute points however they wanted under the 15 point limit, Max 5 per file.

So at this point, it seems this rule is here to stay for the entire duration of the competition?

tl;dr I also don't agree with the current rule of limiting the point spread to 5 files. Also wondering exactly why we reverted to this rule. Seems like we're not going to change anything :/
