VDO requires faster footspeed than anything else in the game so far.
Paranoia Revolution and Egoism have 16th speed spikes that are waaay faster. And as much as it's not any faster, DEAD END Groove Radar Challenge's jump jacks are brutal. In addition, if VDO became a 20, then IX, 888, and DEAD END easily become 19s.

Let's be real, 8 measures in a constant stream of 8ths at 480bpm is way more difficult than bursts of 16ths at 440bpm or jumpjacks at 360bpm. Also 888 and DEGRS seem fine being 18s, but I can agree IX is definitely borderline on its difficulty.

damn I got my hopes up thinking this was going to be a CS game when I saw the headline on the front page. Yeah i was offline for the past few days, so I was late to the party on this.

That full interview's pretty awesome, somehow I've never seen it before now. I'd like to see more insight into key DDR elements like that sometime.

It probably might be a cut from the extended mix from Sota's SYNTHESIZED5 album.

Welp.
Looks like I'm going to have to stop using that song for DDRMAX4 now....
It's awesome to see it being in DDR is gonna be a reality now, though.
Only way this can be beat is if they include Rock the Club (also from Sota, "EXPANDER"). That song is simply amazing and wonderfully complex while not being too messy.

- Building literally 50 units before 2017 and sending them to 10 states.
I think (hope) they learned their lesson from X/X2 in this regard. It does seem like distribution plans are only for the most populous areas to start (10 states is probably a fair guess. Would imagine California, Illinois, New York, Florida, Texas are locks, other possibilities being Massachusetts, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania).
Quote: Catastrophe
- Never offering the game for sale. Making it a D&B and R1 exclusive. (Causing the above.)
I'm sure it'll be "for sale" but most arcades will not be interested in purchasing it at it's price point (especially without upgrade kits) and I don't think they'll allow purchases by private individuals.
Quote: Catastrophe
- Actually not screwing up either of the above (!) and selling new units as pre-order only. (Good, reasonable.) But then not taking orders for a second batch of units until Ace 2 comes out and no one cares anymore.
Again, I hope they learned their lesson with X/X2 in this regard.

- I don't know why the e-amusement server goes down for 2 hours every day plus an additional 5 hours once a month. And it is absolutely incompetent that it takes Konami's various static websites with it. If I can't set my rivals on the website during the downtime, fine. But why does the hinabita website go down? What even.
"We built it this way and it's worked fine since so we're just going to keep doing it this way. Who plays at 3pm anyway?"
Quote
- We're likely not getting Paseli and American operators probably don't want/need it anyway. Fine. But I bet they forget to uncripple the game. So no extra stages, no 1.25x, etc. OR, they do it like in the Chinese release of DDR where "premium mode" costs an extra credit. Except over here that basically turns $1.50 for 3 songs into $3.00 (!!!) for 3 stages + maybe extra stage. Operators will not price that correctly and it's gonna lead to hurt feelings.
I don't think they'll "forget" anything. The US location tests back in August/September were exactly what your numbers were ($1.50/credit, 2 credits for premium mode, 2 songs/credit). Operators aren't going to consider that at all, so just prepare yourself for it now.
Quote: Catastrophe
- I think e-amusement participation is going to be required for legal reasons. I don't think Konami's servers are ready to deal with the DSL and satellite "Internet" that many rural areas have. Connection lost, reboot the game?
This is definitely going to be a problem in smaller arcades.
Quote: Catastrophe
- I like the idea of charging something like 15 cents per credit for upgrade kits, rather than like $2500 annually. Because the latter is easy for tourist trap machines that charge $1.50 and gets tons of play, but it's too much for 'normal' arcades that charge $1 and close on Tuesday. Now everyone pays their share and it's actually in Konami's interest to get as many locations online as possible. Cool! Until the first bill for 210 credits arrives and it is $3,150 instead of $31.50 because it's still using Yen. Or imagine any other billing problem you've ever had in your life.
Upgrade kits aren't happening.

If DDR Ace smoothly rolls out in the USA and becomes a hit, I'll eat a softpad.
If by "hit" you mean "catapults DDR back to mainstream levels of popularity like in 2001" then no, it will not be a hit. It will never be a hit again. If by "hit" you mean "is profitable enough for arcade operators to purchase," you might want to start looking at recipes.

"Hands Up In the Air" and "Dance All Night"? I hope most songs in the game gamy have less generic sounding song titles than that

DANCE ALL NIGHT may be a generic title, but the actual song is beautiful and FAR from just generic.

Not a fan of the song. Feels a bit as if it's the advert song for the game.

Haven't been following BEMANI lately so I wasn't familiar with DANCE ALL NIGHT but listening to it, it sounds like a cool song. I'm surprised I like it as I'm usually not a big fan of Sota's non-vocal songs. Hopefully the DDR edition is even better!
I wonder if they're going to keep adding a string of preview songs to the game, I notice this one is becoming available just as HANDS UP IN THE AIR is being removed.

Good pick for a corssover. It really fits DDR's style.
