I was gonna post this rant on that Smile.DK thread, but I feel i went a bit offtopic so I'll post it here.
I think Naoki had the best taste in music of all the DDR sound directors. DDR has been flooded with j-pop and bizzarre electronic music since TAG took over, U1 does great remixes but his original works are hit or miss, and jun is a great artist but responsible for directing a game with one of the least exciting song lists in DDR (SuperNOVA2), plus she left too. Naoki on the other hand seemed to always know the kinds of songs that fit the game well, and emphasized actually dancable songs and variety. He really knew what dance music was all about, and that is even more evident in how well his songs translated into real choreographies in DanceEvolution, which he was very enthusiastic about at E3. Not saying the new games suck or anything, there are plenty of great songs available still, but clearly going for a different direction overall compared to Naoki, ESPECIALLY in the licensed music.
I would personally nominate kors k to be sound director of a future DDR game. His musical quality is very constant and suited for DDR, and he does great remixes of songs too, even mainstream music, so he might know a thing or two about putting together a song list for a DDR game.
Just an opinion.

...but what an excellent opinion it is. Couldn't agree more with this. I don't mind J-Pop, but I don't think it should be the central focus of DDR's songlist. Naoki did a great job of balancing out actual dance music with the other genres that were commonly used around then, and no other sound director has rivaled his song selection (though jun is generally good in terms of original music and music selection as well).

So... you're saying that DDR X ruined DDR? Just like Gizmondo made its entire company (Tiger Telematics) go under and disappear permanently?

I have not seen nor heard the Gizmondo mentioned since like 2006
this is amazing
Time to mention the wrecked Ferrari by one of Gizmondo's execs from the mafia.

Oh yes. Personally even average kors k is better than quite a lot of the other artists. Also, judging by how good Sweet Home Party was of course I'd want to see some Gekidan action in there too.

I plan to put in at least 4 songs I make into DDRMAX4. One of them is monstrously complex, the final project is over 8 minutes long but I'm working hard so that there's never a bland part. I really hope it's suited for DDR.
(And yes, the song will be cut to be 100 seconds, there's no way I'm stepping a song that's over 8 minutes long.)

The American divisions of Konami would also do better in taking care of DDR in terms of [b]songlist [/b. Ultra mix and Universe were great compared to some of the newer mixes. They put in songs that PS2 versions could not get. Too bad they are not good at frame rates and syncing.
TAG and U1 are good composers but I think the they should be adding more songs in and other stuff. Too bad Konmai doesn't care anymore except for Reflec Beat ( which I love so I forgive them a little bit) and SDVX (which I don't like as much..... dempa is crap)

I'm feeling less skeptical that it works, but I'm feeling more skeptical that it isn't actually a SNES CD-ROM. Considering how the only thing that works on it is the cartridge port (and I'm sorry but that menu REALLY doesn't look official at all) there's still a lot of reason to believe it's some bootleg SNES made to look like a SNES CD. Nothing that the CD was alleged to do works according to this article: http://www.engadget.com/2015/11/06/nintendo-playstation-is-real-and-it-works/
Tell you what, if they 'fix the CD drive' and find some kind of test disc, I see no reason to not believe it anymore.

This is awesome.

I always thought that vortex in the left movie was made just for that movie...
And the moon in the right movie...

Lines up perfectly.
Holy crap.

I don't think I've met anyone who looks into this background stuff as much as you, Cuzco. That's some heavy stuff, man.

I know, it's just, like, I looked at the official videos (from the official games) just to see if there's anything ideas I can have for completely custom videos. I made the left movie's "vortex" rotate because I assumed it to be generic, but in reality, it shouldn't be because it's the moon asset.
However, these types of videos aren't even the surface of it all.
Their neighbors are;

The two videos are in the lighter blacked set below, but the completely visible videos are the most complex in my eyes. Whoever designed them got away with so many easy tricks that aren't obvious at first glance. Specifically, there are reused patterns are items in a couple of the movies. Some of the textures aren't as messy as they seem (edc/tus/wwo are examples for me). I literally made an entire Google document related to these 84 movies just because they look like they were thrown together in 2 hours with Blender and some other texture program, but re-creating them is definitely not easy.

Here's how I see it:
I analyze and transcribe drum solos so I can figure out what drummers do so that I can incorporate their ideas into my playing. Cuzco is essentially doing the same thing with the backgrounds. He's analyzing them so that he can apply those techniques to his own work. It may not seem like a big pay off for everyone but he's definitely learning a bunch of things he can later apply.
DJ Hero came and went, but whatever happened to that other dj simulator game? There was one that was a copy of IIDX. I remember the layout of the UI and that one of the female characters had an upskirt shot or something. I can't remember the name though
