With the fail timing of Betson cabs aside, I'd say give me SN2 over Extreme any day. I just don't have as much excitement for DDR these days since there's practically zero chance of there being anything newer than SN2 around my area. I just really wish Konami would have allowed us to upgrade our previous mixes directly to X2/X3... At least I have DDR II I suppose.

My arcade has an SN2 that was upgraded from an EXTREME (was probably something else before). It's pretty much perfect for its age too.

Aw, why all the hate on Extreme? It's my favorite arcade mix. (Yeah, kinda prefer it above Supernova 2)

But then again I don't blame you for that. Supernova came out after 4 years so you guys may already have been sick of Extreme.

I'd rather play 7th mix over Extreme if I had a choice.

EXTREME is still a good game, (Boatload of songs and one of the best Dancemania loadouts) but most of the time the machine it's running on has fallen to crap.

The only working DDR machine that's near where I live is a 7thMIX. I do NOT have a choice in the matter. Unless I really wanna play Disney's RAVE Wink

Unless you play THAT much the 7 or 8 songs that were cut from Max2 to Extreme I'd say you'll become sick of Max2 rather quickly. Sure, some of those 7 or 8 songs are some of the best songs ever in DDR, but Extreme nearly doubles Max2 in terms of available songs. People love Extreme because it was the last game everybody truly enjoyed, no bullshit bugs/glitches, blatantly bad proprietary cabinet or any of the things that have become a staple of Betson's era.

SN had kind of a mixed response when it was released, since it seemingly came out of nowhere with the sole purpose of killing (in legal terms) the ITG franchise, that was admittedly starting to rise in popularity over DDR.

SuperNOVA2 is amazing because it has ME AGAINST THE MUSIC which got cut from X and is a completely fantastic song.

I'm kind of surprised there isn't some kind of like, 2ndMIX MODE ranking going on or something. Sure, most players are still working on X3 unlocks, but there doesn't seem to be any reason to play 2ndMIX MODE more than a few times for novelty's sake.

Yes I like my Trance De Janeiro, Drifting Away, and A Minute.

Aesthetics is another thing - color scheme, sound quality, bgmovie quality (not to mention how many songs had their bgvid sequences horribly changed.)

With virtually every Konami song (minus good-cool) from Extreme also in SN2, it has lost a lot of value to me.

This is a myth/Western perception.

Me Against the Music is still in X. It got cut in X2.

SN2 had a...strange license selection, but boy did it deliver. ME AGAINST THE MUSIC, My Favorite Things, Two Months Off, and Angelus=<3.

I'm surprised there isn't something going on, be it on X3 or 2ndMIX, especially with how constantly new stuff was added to X2.

Didn't DDR X go through dry spells during its unlock cycle?

IIRC, X was pretty consistent with unlocks (usually about every two weeks), it was just they went through a lot of times where the unlocks were rather small things (like new characters or character accessories).

By this point (1.5 months after the official release), X2 had already started IR#2. X2 hasn't even began 1 yet. Confused
nice.

just asking since I only played SN2 once and its in a mall like an hour and a half away from my house, can you play the boss songs as regular stages or can they only be played in ES or EES?

UGH, this long wait for new things is really frustrating Konami :/

Give me some reason to be interested in this arcade release.

Give me some reason to be interested in this arcade release.

It's was made during a time when Japan was experiencing and recovering from a huge natural disaster, and was rushed out for a 18th November release, because the whole gimmick of the game when it was announced was that it was the anniversary of DDR 2nd Mix.

Most of the songlist probably didn't get done in time, and the songs which were finished early were included as preview songs in Hottest Party 4 and 5. If we hadn't already played those games, then this songlist would look huge.

They now have the ability to patch songs into the game as they please, and are probably waiting for all the other Bemani games to start of next phase of their respective Internet Ranking / Unlock stages, so that they can get everything back on the intended track. The next batch of IIDX Lincle unlocks has some surprising Bemani crossovers, and songs from some recent artist albums, so in a worst case scenario, we'll probably just see those patched in through E-Amuse.

The disaster in Japan was terrible, I was there, but I'm having a hard time understanding how the loss of a farming village over 200km away made X3 take longer to produce. There were rolling blackout in Tokyo way back in March, but they were way back in March. Maybe that affected the game's development cycle, but it was short-lived and it was early on (very early on, before we even knew the game was being made).

Also, 2ndMIX was released in early 1999 making its 10th anniversary early 2009. Or on any year, January 29. I don't think they rushed to release it in November due to that.

That said, if this game is anything like X2, it's going to continue to surprise and impress us all the way to the very last update.
