It's not perfect, but X was absolutely an improvement over SN2. SN2 was indecipherable, the difficulty ratings were meaningless in that game they were so wrong, and 10 was just equivalent of IIDX RED's flashing 8's. Completely unhelpful.
HP has thus far avoided the issue by generally not having anything harder than a 15, but even then, HP3 had its fair share of rating woes (Closer was a 7 on HP3 and X2, but that rating only makes sense on X2).

Yeah, am I gonna have to bring up Let The Beat Hit 'Em Classic R&B Style being a 10 on the new scale when it's nowhere close to even a 7?
I want to believe this is the result of them being aware of all the townies that can't play anything slower than 150BPM without 3x.
No, I'm not bitter, why do you ask? :3

The DDR PS3 site has been updated as of Oct. 27th. There are 6 samples of KO's that will also be in the Wii verison, so I thought I'd let you guys know.
http://konami.com/officialsites/ddr2010/
I personally like the sound of Private Eye.
Other new ones are.. okay.

I still can't get over why they stick to the 10-foot rating system when it is so woefully inadequate at accurately rating DDR's existing library. This isn't too much an issue for the Wii version since it won't have DLC back-catalogue (this didn't stop X2 and HP3 from blatantly contradicting each other though), but if the PS3 version does, we're going to have the entire 14-18 range compressed into 10s again, which is just inane.
you say this as if konami is accurately rating on the 1-18 scale.
1-20 scale, confirmed by X2 Course mode.
I used to be against it because change sucks, but I've come to see the light - 15-18 instead of 10 is sure helpful. And isn't that why Konami rerated a ton of charts between X and X2?

you mean confirmed by X CS edit mode. really, if you're going to correct me, correct me right. still, i wasnt wrong. nothing over 18 has shown up yet. the solo games came out after 9s were introduced and still only went 1-8, using a 1-8 scale. i rest my case.
also, you completely missed my point.

Seriously, most of these aren't new and the ones that are new, are disappointing. This list totally pales in comparison to HP3. This is exactly the opposite of what I expected the song list to be... *sigh*

In the Hottest Party series, you can press a button to get to the options menu. D8 On DDR X, it's right below the difficulty selection. That's what I meant. What a silly place to put it!
...fffff still hating "Need You Now". D8; But the rest of the songs are okay.

i thought you were talking about arcade versions, all arcade mixes have you hold the button to get the options menu just like hottest party. still, on X for ps2 you can hold the button and get the options menu.

In all the HOTTEST PARTY games, you have had to go to a separate sub-menu to change the Options. Holding down A will not work.

Pressing the 1 Button will jump straight to the Options in HP2. I think in HP3, it's the 2 Button, but I might have it backwards.

I really don't know why they changed that past Extreme US, as the hold button for options method is still my preferred method of choice. It's how it is in the arcade so why change it. It's one of several reasons why I don't think too much of PS2 DDR past Extreme US, though Extreme 2 is the last actually good one.
One thing I will say that I can't stand about the PS2 releases is the lack of auto saving after each play of a song. The Wii titles spoiled me there, and to find that I lost all my scores because I shut the game off before exiting Free Play is ridiculous. That, and the lack of being able to unlock everything from the previous game by owning the latest.
