It's not Twitch's fault. It's not even Google's fault.
It's the music industry. They don't understand the concept of free advertisement and want to charge everyone for everything. Honestly, if it was up to them, they would make speakers, sharing MP3 players/earbuds, etc. illegal. Hitbox will run into the same situation if it gets large enough.
I wouldn't outright blame the music industry. Is it a bit overprotective? Yes, but some people might have different outlooks towards the usage of their music. That and it's not affecting live broadcasts in this case. It's the music industry. They don't understand the concept of free advertisement and want to charge everyone for everything. Just my random two cents. I don't even do streaming or watch many streams often either, haha.

How It Works: Scanning VODs Only
Audio Recognition will only be run against audio in VODs. We are not scanning live broadcasts and there is no automated takedown of live content.
Not so bad.
Glad to see someone read what the hell is even going on. Also I thought Twitch already did this.Audio Recognition will only be run against audio in VODs. We are not scanning live broadcasts and there is no automated takedown of live content.

not gonna lie, i'm REALLY sick and tired of people being extremely surprised about when celebrities commit suicide. It's a terrible issue, and obviously we don't know everything that goes on in peoples' lives. But with the way we treat our mentally ill here, it's not surprising at all. The fact is, since one in four Americans suffer from a diagnosable mental illness, it shouldn't even be a stranger to us. And when we hear someone talking about their cancer or other severe physical ailment, we constantly mourn for them and wish them better, "oh my gosh, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this." But if someone says they suffer from depression and anxiety, you hear "wow, you're an attention whore." or "why don't you just, you know, feel better?"
Celebrities commit suicide rather frequently, yet after each and every time it occurs, everyone behaves in an extremely shocked manner. But the cycle still continues, and if we're so shocked, it's amazing how few people actually try to make a difference. Suicide's preventable, but the more we stigmatize those who suffer from mental health issues, the fewer suicides we will prevent.

I can't speak for anyone else here, but I for one was not surprised when I heard it was suggested to have been a suicide. I agree with you completely there Astroman129, I just thought it was relevant information.

I don't get why people are so shocked either. People die all the time. People kill themselves all the time. But I do have a question for you, what are you specifically doing to make a difference? If you're not doing anything, then saying that people should do something is kind of hypocritical.

I'm studying mental health in school and [currently planning on] dedicating my life after grad school to helping prevent mental illnesses and educate people about them.

Ok, but what are you doing that has an impact right now? Posting rants on Facebook or social sites isn't really doing much.

I'm still using my knowledge of mental illnesses to educate those around me and I try my best to ensure that my friends are feeling okay. Small things like that from various people can create a greater impact than one might think, and I know it sounds cliche, but it's true. If we educate those around us about mental illnesses, we're closer to breaking the stigma than before. I have pretty much no financial control so I can't donate any money to organizations, however. That's a definite goal for the future.

Mental health issues should never be stigmatized. I don't understand why they always are. Hell, things like suicide are a laughing matter to a lot of people. It makes me sick. It makes me angry that someone is probably going to say "oh, he's rich, he doesn't have problems". Sure, he has money, but money does not solve emotional problems. Money will not make your issues go away. Ugh.
I've been down the whole depression path many times before (still on it but that's another story) and I came dangerously close to going through with a suicide attempt a couple years ago. While I know I can't do much right now that has a significant impact on people as a whole, I always try to help others when they feel that way. So, that would be a good place to start if you want to do something. If you have a friend who talks about wanting to commit suicide, talk them out of it. Be there, and don't shame them. Have empathy. Do everything you can to lift them up. Astroman, you're a psych student, so it will probably help you in the long run.

What do you mean by this? What will help me in the long run? I'm not attacking, just genuinely curious.

I meant that having empathy when people are in that sort of situation will help you. Sorry, I didn't word that very well.
