Audio editing.
Post #202 · Posted at 2016-03-22 06:57:00am 8.2 years ago
No seriously to make all the nuances normalize to a static BPM blows my mind and to do it perfectly at that. Surely there are limits like songs that constantly speed up at some point you're going to mess up the vocals. What audio editing can do such things, what is the technique called? I am deeply interested because it seems amazing.
These songs from DDR2013
Rio and Venus
Were the two from DDR on PS3 that were constant BPM and maybe they just were created that way, there are actually several others that aren't constant so it's not consistent if they did audio editing to normalize the BPM so perfectly. Also if this is a thing why not normalize to an integer BPM those are very popular with audio engineers.
I may have just assumed they were fluctuating BPM songs based on the age, because if they had such ability then "Celebration", "Love Shack", "We are Family" sure could have used it, especially Love Shack that is one of the worse.
Plus if you are able to do that how do you get the video to match up?
So many questions please spit some knowledge.

Well, in that case they didn't use music videos for that entire mix. I've actually seen a few fan simfiles do it too, most notably Windeu when he charted Dedede Invades Equestria for one his sight-reading tournaments. I remember being so confused when the BPM didn't work when I made a new cut! Once again, no music video.
Anyway, with the 80's, it's a mixed bag whether the studio used BPM regulation, so it may be possible those songs originally were constant BPM.

I start by tempo-mapping the song, as if doing it for Rock Band. I decide what BPM I want, and slice every spot where the tempo changes on my tempo map. Then I speed it up or slow it down to match the proper tempo. I imagine if you did it with videos you'd do something similar in video editing software.

The 80s was a weird time, with the crossover between music based off a live drum track and one with an electronic drum track due to the birth of the synthesizer. Rio and Venus happened at both ends of the 80s, both from the UK, basically the head of the synthesizer revolution, Rio from the New Romantics, Venus from the Stock, Aitken and Waterman stable that dominated the late 80s. Celebration and We are Family would have been from the disco era where the tempo would be dictated from the drummer, Love Shack is 80s, but rock took until the late 90s to start using click tracks. Were the two from DDR on PS3 that were constant BPM and maybe they just were created that way, there are actually several others that aren't constant so it's not consistent if they did audio editing to normalize the BPM so perfectly. Thanks, I have personally encountered songs that I would have swore were randomBPM that also turned out to be a static value non integer from this time period, most notably "Cherry Pie".I'll still sync these up for you Ben, please already have them cut and include the .sm files.

Will the new 3-song pack include any of the songs from the 3-pack I suggested?

UPDATE TIME, AND THIS ONE IS A KING SIZE ONE!
That's right, 5 tracks! Thought as I've extended this into a 2016 pack I had better start representing 2016, so here's 5 songs that have taken the charts both in the pop and the indie world by storm this year!
Army / Ellie Goulding (Supervision Recommended)
Cake By The Ocean / DNCE (Family Friendly)
Clearest Blue / CHVRCHES (Family Friendly)
Fast Car / Jonas Blue feat. Dakota (Family Friendly)
Follow You / Bring Me The Horizon (Supervision Recommended)
Enjoy! Download Now!

Borderline offensive (definitely NSFW), but I was wondering if you would add this song to the mix?
CVNT5 - Gareth Emery and Ashley Wallbridge

Hahaha, whilst the word doesn't bother me in the slightest, the song is fantastic and the video is genius, I don't think I'd be happy about putting it out there aha. Swearing in songs fine if warned, but there's something that would bother me having CUNTS in the songwheel regardless of warning ahaha.

Hey Ben, so I know my last request was a bit risque, but since you have done WWE themes in this pack, how do you feel about this theme?
Shinsuke Nakamura
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJjZM5zFGuA&nohtml5=False
(not the wrestling thread, but that match with Sami Zayn tho)

Oh gosh, what a fantastic match that was aha, as someone who's not really all that familar with him I was blown away! And yeah, when I heard his theme I was like.. I have to do this! So..
FF = Family Friendly
SR = Supervision Recommended
Yes, I totally stole Rock Band's way of rating music ahaha. Enjoy these 3 completely random singles, we have 80s throwback Can't Deny My Love from Brandon Flowers of The Killers solo album, the runner up "2015 song of the year" in Pedestrian at Best and the theme of the incredible NXT/WWE superstar Shunsuke Nakamura, The Rising Sun. Special thanks to MarsPhoenix for telling me the correct sync for the Brandon Flowers track, and for working some music editing magic to make Pedestrian at Best a constant tempo. Fab work!

Lol
I kind of have an oddball, random request. Not sure if you would be cool with it or not, but would you be willing to add challenge charts to certain songs that you have already stepped that do not have them, or are the files you have already stepped set in stone? I had a handful of songs in mind that would be cool if they have added challenge charts, but if not, I understand.

I actually have gone back and added Challenge charts to Bad Blood and Elastic Heart so I'm not against the idea, I just have to feel like it's worth it aha!
New pack dropping tonight/in a few hours by the way! Here are some vague clues, see if you can get any of them!
SONG #1
SONG #2
SONG #3
There IS a distinct theme too, it's not just random singles like last time! Best of luck!

1. Figaro...cat...I got nothin'.
Or
Figaro...Disney...current movie...Zootopia..."Try Everything / Shakira"
Or
Figaro...black and white..."Panda / Desiigner" (more likely)
2. Clock...time...mortality..."7 Years / Lukas Graham"
3. Construction...music video..."Work From Home (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) / Fifth Harmony"
Or
Construction...work..."Work (feat. Drake) / Rihanna"
Unifying theme could be either "Top 10 US" (if anything but Shakira) or "Foreign Hits" (if not Desiigner or 5H). Am I close?
