Here's an idea that I blatantly stole off of Best-Mix: Give a mark out of 6 for the steps. This includes all charts, and can be split whatever way you see fit (2 for Light, Standard and Heavy, and so forth). Also, feel free to deduct marks if the file is notably offsync. Give a mark out of 4 for the presentation. This includes quality of music file, all graphics work, and readme quality, etc. You can comment of the choice of song and it's suitability for DDR, but don't knock marks off just because you don't like it. This ain't a favourite song contest. Add 'em both together, and you get a mark out of 10.

Everyone could use a scoring system like that and give the breakdown of the ratings.

or only: 6 (600/1000)

Song Quality: 2 (200/1000)
Readme: 1 (100/1000)
Extras: 1 (100/1000)


Comes out to 1000/1000, or 10/10.


The 1000 system is for those that want to get specific about the ratings (i.e, an LSH simfile has a good Heavy but bad Standard, so 200/1000 for the Heavy but only about 50/1000 for Standard, which by putting to the 10 system are 2/10 and .5/10 respectively.)

What about Doubles?

There shouldn't be a requirement to play it, but at least let it count for something.

Normally, that'd be in the Extras section, as well as Beginner, namely because not everyone plays Doubles. However, if anyone is a doubles player, they should include doubles steps alongside the single step rating. And I'm going to do a .txt file for a review, like the pros do.

Also, a note to all reviewers:

Song Quality DOES NOT mean whether you like the song. This was a v. big issue in Best-mix #1 and many DDRExtreme contests. Song quality refers to the length of the song (if it's suitable for dancing to), how well it was cut (if you can notice parts like when a voice gets cut halfway through) and the sound quality (whether it's too blurry, too quiet etc.)

i found a problem with the last simfile i uploaded last night (votum stellarum). turns out the banner will refuse to preview on the page. Unfortunatly I found the problem just now. So just to make note, the banner is still there but it won't view on the page. I put that note down on the simfile page for it just to let everyone know

Yeah, I'd rather include Doubles under step judgment. And the .txt file? Hmm, I'll wait and see how you do that.

Is a readme truly necessary? I mean, it's plug and play, there's not much to comment on for simfiles.

Oh well, I already resigned myself to getting a reduced score; I'm here for the steps. I'm not a graphic artist, been very busy, and if anyone is so confused by my simfiles that they need a readme, I do apologize.

P.S. I just realized I suck at RARing. Sorry. I've been a bit of a disaster lately. Life has not been kind. If it really bothers someone I'll fix it/reRAR and upload.

Really quick, should I re-do the ratios for steps so that sims with Doubles have ratings too? It'd probably be an as-a-whole thing but Doubles would be counted as steps and not extras.

Keep Doubles rating in the singles. Halve the availible points for all the charts (Single Heavy goes from 200 to 100. Double Heavy's worth 100 to compensate.)

Question is, will people give Double Heavy the full 100 or just 0 because they don't bother looking at it?

If that happened, the review should be disallowed, as the file's being punished for the reviewer's own incompetence, in what I like to call X-Play Beatmania Review Syndrome.
