They're having a DDR II launch party in...Montreal, Canada?

Tickets.

I...Hmm.

How can they do that on a Thursday!? I think, I'll be going anyway after work, simple 2 hours drive for some news on that game, why not? =P
Some news? It's happening on Oct 13th, two days after the release of DDR II. You just get the added incentive of meeting Naoki though youlucKYBASTAR-

Oops! You're right! I guess I might get some prize then! I could get an autographed copy of the game by Naoki himself or something like that! =D I can't wait to go there!

XD If Oni is in the game, I promise I'll try! But the best I could get on that song, arcade or home pad, would be an E or a D if I'm lucky enough to pass it! We don't have any X2 machines I can play on around here so I can't really practice...

Have an ITG2 R21 or R23 patched, USB enabled machine nearby?

Yes, but they turned the volume so low you don't hear the music over your steps, nor over the racing games' music around... Basically, if you play any song by Missing heart, you play on silence... I guess that would be somewhere to start for practice though! XD

wtf, usually an ITG2 with r21 is the center piece of an arcade.

The biggest challenges for most people trying to pass VD at home will be :

* Learning the rhythms and BPM changes. (which you can do on Stepmania with a keyboard)

* Moving your feet fast for the final stream, enough without a bar to push all of your weight onto. (which is developed through skipping, jogging, and balance exercises).

If you want to set yourself up the smart way, then playing VD over and over on an AC isn't really going to help much. The smart thing is to learn how the song works, and then preparing your body for the strain of it, then taking two or three attempts at the song before resting, and preparing for more attempts.

If you just throw yourself at the song time and time again, it'll take a lot longer to pass :{

Well, the only arcade here is rather unaware of the needs of people, it's already a miracle they bought X in the first place and input the patch and changed the pads a few times... Apart from that, they get an excuse for turning the volume of those machines af often as they can, and won't change it back unless you find a nice employee there... It's in a mall's amusement park, mostly kids are roaming around, and kids won't notice anything except flashy arrows going up, so they can play music or not... XD

Running, jogging, etc etc don't really help with moving your feet fast enough without the bar. Trust me, I run/jog on a regular basis, my DDR skills have not increased at all. And VD isn't really that hard. The rhythm is pretty straight forward, the speed changes are actually rather minor compared to harder songs (New Decade, Anti Matter). A handful of people are already passing this at our arcade and on crappy pads. I think the reason VD is seen as being harder than it really is is due to how hard it was to pass it initially. Encore Extra Stage pass? That's insanely hard. Just making it through with a sliver of your life bar? Not too bad.

I almost think that Valkyrie dimensionHeavy could pass for a 17 if all the speed gimmicks were removed.

The question is not how to pass it on a X2 pad or ITG pad but on the Wii pad.

Easier than Pluto Relinquish Heavy? That was the last big song I made an effort to pass, but if VD is close to that, I might give it a shot too.

You can play VD Heavy on 3x if you really want to give it a shot. The opening is perfectly readable,
and the ending is easy to spam.

The opening is meaningless even on Challenge, just spam mostly up+left, while making some effort to hit down+right too, and you'll pass it.

It's worth it to be able to play the song on a readable speed like 2x or 3x.

For those that didn't see the BOOM BOOM DANCE thread, the collab artists are hidden away in the source code of the BBD product page. The artists are:

Maxi Priest, Lisa Lisa, Kathy Sledge, Tiffany, Shanise, Limahl, Stacey Q, Starship, and Vanilla Ice.

Most likely these songs are going to be the Reveal 5 tab for DDR II.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go out and get this...as well as a really nice pad for the Wii (do they make arcade style ones?)
I stole DDR X2 CS from the internet; it's my fault the music game genre is dying.

That stuff isn't going to be good on the wii plsatic pad.
Maybe they'll modify the Wii plastic pads to make them thicker or something.

I play Pluto Relinquish on 1x, and can hardly read it the fast sections :{

Whoa, I sure hope Reveal 5 is those songs! That's way above and beyond what I thought the whole collaboration thing would be. Awesome! Also who is Shanise? Tongue
