Don't even get me started on that.......it's so horrible and weird
I actually used to listen to them. After all of this and even before he plead guilty, I just can't anymore. Kinda like how I can't listen to As I Lay Dying anymore after their singer got caught trying to hire a hitman to kill his wife.

Bought my first box of Pokemon cards today. So it begins.
Jesus, these things are expansive. It's got the game mat and these little cardboard coins and everything. Chewi would be proud.

Unless you got that box in a 90% discount sale, then you have joined the many who have fallen in losing their money.
Learn to buy singles.
MTG, Pokemon, Yugioh. Anything... In any game you'll play, it's always best to buy singles (find a good card shop/online store).
Don't ever buy those damn structure decks or intro packs/boxes. They're so high in price that whatever is in them is useless in comparison. You'll end up with 5-6 ok cards and the rest being junk. With the money you used to buy a box or what not, you could have made the best deck ever with cards you would like to use and that are effective.
Aegis is most disappointed.

It means you stfu.
I know it says "expansive".
There are many cards out there. Many in mind that haven't been brought out to win over others. That's design. You'll have things that suck so you can get more to replace that and continue with that loop until you get the best (until they release more new cards which will try to make that the new bar).
I'm talking about the spending he will do if he continues.
You don't want to get junk and then try to make that junk playable. Cards are sometimes designed for a certain purpose, whether it be to blatantly tell you to "take me out of the deck for something more useful" or to win.
You'll look at the collection and not be able to win if you tried spending on boosters or whatever.
Buying singles is the easiest way to make a great deck with cards you can use to build many others and save money.

On top of what Aegis said, the power creep of Pokemon is pretty insane - look up some cards that were made 2 years ago and compare those to some in the newer sets, the new ones will be much better to get you to buy more even if you're playing casually (and if you're playing competitively the format rotates I believe so you have to for your deck to be legal).
So again, buy singles.
In a somewhat related note, I looked at the remains of my old Yugioh stuff on a whim since I haven't played for a year and a half or so and decided to check how things were going, why in the world is Sixth Sense legal? (To sell packs probably, but still.) Blows my mind how much blatant creep there is, and I'm glad I quit.

I ended up quitting Yu-Gi-Oh manly because I learned you can't really playing casually. You either got lucky as hell and sold rare cards or you were the person that paid top dollar for said rare card. It got to the point in order to be good, I would have to spend thousands of dollars and I just don't have the income for it anymore.

*throws Astro +1 for emphasizing spelling and grammar*
... I mean, you don't have to be friendly until +2. :P
Reminds me that someone told me I was crazy last week for explaining why some guy's sentence didn't need a comma because the second half didn't have a subject. :P Yay, grammar.
Coming from someone who sucked at YuGiOh and marginally survived Pokemon, I figured it was a good idea to buy some cheap packs for fun with randomness and then fill in the blanks with good singles. The full decks are sorta... too cookie-cutter for me, unless you're first learning how to play.
Raging Flame Sprite is the best YuGiOh card. :D At least, since there was some guard card I had attached to it to keep it from dying before it boosted its attack, but I forgot what it was. And that was probably the only good setup I had in my deck before crumbling to really good younger kids.

To be honest, I buy the Pokemon theme decks because I have no confidence in my ability to pull 60 cards out of my bin and slap them in front of my opponent, and because I like to segregate my generations(not that that sounds weird at all).

Look to the stars.
Anyway, in my opinion, I don't use trading cards, I like to play the Pokémon games, watch the cartoon, and read the mangas. I'm also not into Yu-Gi-Oh, though I have seen glimpses of the anime a few times.
I also animate Pokémon, though my attempts come off as... interesting. :P

Totally nailed it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. The Pikachu is intentionally red since this is a friend's OC.
And yes, I will add shading later on.

Yes, the power creep currently in Pokemon TCG is quite big... which is one of the reasons of why I don't like the current format (though I still play and go to official tournaments). But yeah, if you're going to play competitively, it's better to buy single cards. You'll need to get some Pokemon-EX (though there are a couple of decks that currently don't run Pokemon-EX).

while we're on the subject of Power Creep, here's some nice information on Power Creep and how it affects games in the long run:
The TVTropes page on Power Creep has information worth reading on the subject, with more detailed examples.

Incorrect.
If you played at all you could spend an easy 40 dollars at the max to make a deck that is top tier.
I've playtested to make an easy pretty penny.
Google "Chain Burn".

Neat card, but too fragile.
Probably you mean Solar Flare Dragon.
