I remember when someone was practically being a Jehovah's Witness about My Little Pony to me. I don't get what's so fascinating about it; it's yet another cartoon animated with Adobe Flash and it's nothing groundbreaking. I briefly cared about the series during its original incarnation when I was about 5, but that's it...and it doesn't help that the fanbase is particularly annoying.

I know a couple of fans of MLP. They aren't really obnoxious about it though and they just wear pony shirts and stuff like that. But tbh I think the only people who would be REALLY open and obnoxious about their love for it is the stereotype of a brony(you know, the general way they're portrayed in the media).
Just my opinion.

I can't speak for everyone who likes the show, but some people enjoy the show because, well, it's a well-written and entertaining show, and these people couldn't care less about whether or not it's a "masculine" thing.
I don't consider myself a brony but I do enjoy it.

This. Right here.
I first heard about MLP because Rainbow Dash was Max's avatar (yes, I first heard about it here on Z-I-v). I thought "Is that Happy Tree Friends or something...?" because it looked like it. I didn't know anything else.
Then, on DeviantArt, I began seeing it more and more and learned about it. I wasn't interested, but one of my friends were, then another, and it was brought up in an RP I had with some other friends... Then I gave it a try. I was 11 at the time, so I was the targeted age, so why not?
I watched the first episode... It wasn't bad. I was even more curious, so I watched more, and even asked my family to record it. But... 9 episodes later... No. It's not my taste.
However, I have no issues with anyone who likes the show, only the over obsessive ones that bash on other for not liking the show.
But really... How can so many guys like it? And for so long? How does MLP do that?? I personally can't figure it out. I think this happened with Happy Tree Friends (but then again... it's gory) long before I got the internet for the first time.

Gender roles.
I like a lot of things that are typically seen as feminine. And it's not a particularly strange thing- I've seen many people here at my college who will play the shit out of britney spears. Men, too.
I don't think it's so much about the gender as it is the age group. I get that you were the target age but maybe you don't traditionally like things made for your age. I tend to like things a stage lower, maybe you like things a stage higher.

Things I like and completely randomized. It's true I like some things a stage higher (when my brother turns on The Simpsons, I, for some reason, am attracted to it...), but, for some reasons, during most of 2013, I was completely obsessed with Rolie Polie Olie, maybe it's because it had old 90's CGI. I'm not really into that photo-realistic CGI... I found out about it because a family member pointed out the DDR Movie Disco1 looked a lot like Rolie Polie Olie. I looked at it, and numerous movies in DDRMAX2 (plus Wheel2 and Timer1) beared a striking resemblence. That may be why I loved it, because it was the same type of CGI as the DDRMAX2 movies. Also, it's the reason why some of my visualizations look absolutely great, it got me hooked on CGI. Before I started re-making the DDR videos for the second time, I grew my 3D skills with certain elements from Rolie Polie Olie. Examples:

But I never finished it. :/ Too laggy.

Along with that, I liked Jimmy Neutron and The Fairly OddParents. Before that, I loved these cartoons called Object Shows. Before THAT, I was totally obsessed with Class Of 3000 (making me obsessed with music making, and I understood it more and got better at it). And so on. But 2010, the best year of my life, had me totally amazed by Pokémon, Roblox (before it got old) Marble Runs, and, of course, DDR. So my interests are randomized, and My Little Pony never managed to squeeze in with any vibe I was in. I can't predict what I'll like next once DDR runs out (for the third time), though mostly it's things I don't expect to like until I do.

It was in love with the refridgerator, but it didn't love it back.Perhaps it was too frigid.
