True. 573 is considered the number for Konami because of the Japanese way of saying the numbers. 5 is "go" (kind of like 'ko'), seven is either shichi or 'nana' (the 'na'), and three can be said as mittsu (where the 'mi' comes in).
The default high score on nonstop and challenge courses on Extreme (and below I presume) begins with 573. Also, before jumps counted as one, Max 300 had 573 steps.
