The thread tells me to let it out, so I shall.
It's come to my attention that I've spent ten years going through the education system, going through compulsory school, then college, then university, The latter of which also set me back to the tune of £19,000 ($28,000). So...what have I earned from it?
Well, uh...not much. I have now three letters on the end of my name, so now I can now officially be named Alex Richards BSc. But that's it. Because the job market is in such a state of shit at the moment, I'm currently being rejected for jobs that college kids are the only other applicants, and the nature of the job is exactly what I spent the entire three fucking years of my University doing. It's a sorry state of affairs when I end up paying £20k of my own money, and a whole fuckton more of blood, sweat and tears, for nothing, as some smug college student cunt with a silver spoon shoved up his arse waltzes in and takes it from right under my nose. Maybe he's sucking the employer's cock, maybe he's the employer's spoilt nephew, maybe both, I don't fucking know, the point is, if the point of University was to get an advantage over these people in the eyes of employers, and it's clear from my repeated attempts and repeated failures that said advantage doesn't clearly exist, then what the FUCK is the point of going to Uni in the first place?
And it's only going to get worse, because the love of my life in three years time is going to be exactly in my position, but thanks to the government her bill shall be over double the amount of mine. So, we'll be entering married life with a £50-60,000 debt hanging above our heads, and no hope of getting a proper decent job because smug college hipster bastards will steal them all from us. Although to be honest, it's not the first time I'm used to life being shit and unfair. Look at my family: I have a brother who treated me, my parents, anyone with any semblance of authority at all like shit for the last ten years. Meanwhile I knuckled down and studied, and look what's happened. He's in a stable job earning £23,000 a year for a car company, meanwhile I'm in a job selling games that if there was any justice I should be MAKING, for a salary that...well, you see that figure my brother makes? Cross out the two.
Either way, it's a rather depressing time round chez Oni, what with everything in the world's power to make everyone queue up to shit on my head, metaphorically speaking. If there's a God up there he clearly has it in for me for something I did in a past life. Point is, this year has been utterly shit so far for me and my wellbeing, and frankly the last time that mentally I felt this low I tried to end it all, and I don't want it to come to that again. It's just that I don't know how much more I have to go through until there's a resoultion, if there is one. It's like The Shawshank Redemption, with a lot more tunnelling through shit. And no fucking redemption.
So there, thread. I have let it out.
tl;dr sometimes the only comfort I have in the world is the knowledge that we're all killing each other on one rock slowly spinning through space and time, and the rock itself is dying.

IDK where else to post this so I'll post it here.
I went to a music game tournament last Saturday and I have to say had one of the funnest times ever! I entered in DDR Extreme, Pump Pro, and lower tier IIDX (level 9 and under). I got knocked out in the 3rd round in both the Extreme and Pump tournaments but manage to get 3rd in IIDX.
I won $15 cash and $25 in free tokens. I also won KaW's Urban Comatose CD in a raffle. I have also notice today some videos of me have shown up.
Pump (I got knocked out here) Me on the right
EXTREME. (lost this song but won the match in a tie breaker) Me on the right
Also saw this during the IIDX upper tier tournament. Seeing this in person was nuts.

So my mom wants me to make a slideshow to play during my grandmother's funeral. She wants it to last about an hour, the estimated duration of the funeral.
So she gives me about an hour and fifteen minutes of music.
...And twenty-five photos.

@ Oni-91: That seems to be the way alot of place are at the moment. It's not much different over here. People with massive debt and degrees that don't seem to help out in finding a job and the value of degrees seems to mean less than nothing to some employers too. On top of that several employers value paid experience way more than a degree in something so they just see it as a piece of paper although I would think it would count for something because it shows the dedication and commitment you put in at school to earn your degree. Now it seems that you really do need to know a key person in company just so you have a decent shot at getting in rather than relying on education and merit alone.
I've been in several similar situations so I feel your pain. I got lucky in the sense that I only owe about $10,000 in student loans and I've paid a small portion of it already. I have a good job and job offers right now only because of two key people I know that really want me because of what I've learn in the past year. This particular area sucks in terms of graphic design as well so it's also a bit of a miracle that I have what I have now.
All I can say is hang in there 'cause it's gonna be a hell of a ride.

Took this picture a couple of hours ago as a memento of X3, since in a matter of hours it will be a DanceDanceRevolution machine. Little did I know that the dancer on the machine is soinlove... who just identified himself to me on Twitter. He also confirmed that the location in question (Tokyo Leisure Land 2 in Akihabara) will have two of the new ~FaBuLoUs~ DDR machines come the morning.
Can't wait...

@Oni-91:
Stuff like this is what I am ultimately fearing right now. I'm in my first year for computer science and I honestly have no idea what awaits me at the end of this path. I've heard this sector is growing over here, but it really means nothing to me. I can have all the degrees I want, but what counts is my experience in the field. My field in particular, employers will be looking for the things I made. No one can predict what the future has to offer, but I know for certain I am not confident with investing close to $30,000 of my future's money into something I have no idea if it will pay off.
All this uncertainty of mine has led me to some deep thinking. Is this program actually setting me up for a prosperous career? I don't even know. And because of that, I have been considering the idea of quitting university and switching over to a college program. There's much more on the why end, though.
In the case you have fallen into with that job application, my prediction is that the employer assumed since you were a university graduate, you would somehow want more of them in terms of salary, bonuses, etc. I've heard of cases of people being turned down because they were "overqualified". All really absurd, but alas.
You'll find something in due time, I am certain. In this age it is far more difficult to stay in one place to find them.
Sorry if a good chunk of this sounds really bleak
This same sort of thing has been troubling me as well.

To share a story with what KKiONI is saying:
there's this 50 year old dude that I worked with. When he was done with college he was turned down because he was overqualified. In 2013, the degree that he worked on is now considered underqualified.

I have been there so many times...I went to an interview for a janitor position, The interviewer looked over my resume and said that because I was an Assistant Manager at my last job...I could do better. What a load of croc...I just needed a job.//
