We have no issues of the center panel misfiring, people are just stepping on it
Yeah maybe misfiring was the wrong word, being unintentionally triggered was perhaps a better explanation but that's just as much of a problem as a misfiring pad no?
And I don't really know, I don't wanna knock your design as you're clearly skilled and have done a whole bunch of work, your jackets are fantastic, but the overall look just doesn't sit right. It might be because it looks a lot like that website that auto-generates 'retro' aesthetic text haha.

Lol yeah, I just really wanted to make an 80s neon thing, but I don't think I'm pushing it far enough yet. I've begun adding more motion and shine elements to help that but I agree, it's not there yet.
Never. There was a joke post made in 'Music Game Hell' that called people ostriches and referenced how you can wiggle on the wii balance board to play the wii ddr games. People are taking a shitpost as 100% truth and with malice intent.

Kyle has made fun of her pad design before, though? That would clearly show that he's at least seen and knows what Impulse pads are.

So far the songlist looks awful (imo)
tbh I'm hype for Asterisk and Freezer, they're both Japanese and they made great songs in the A-Remix Nation albums.
Also, although it's cool to see another dance game being made and all, I think the pad design is a HUGE design flaw in itself, and the biggest issue is the center pad. I noticed in that Mexi Mexi video that the center pad is being misstepped a lot. Although it didn't affect him in that chart, you can see this will be a huge problem in one of these two cases:
1) In other charts, players may accidentally get a lot of pad decents and such because of how DDR/ITG players hit up/down arrows (toes for up, heels for down, but the rest of the foot rests on the center panel).
2) It will heavily restrict chart designs because now charters have to keep this in mind.

Damn, so much negativity towards this and so many people being overly critical. I'm excited as all hell for a new dance game, first off. New dance game by Kyle Ward? Even better. New pad tech that is supposedly better than ITG 2 pads? Sign me the hell up. I just wanna play a new dance game, don't really care about any drama behind the scenes. I can't wait to find out more about the game and see how the finished product looks. I'm really digging the aesthetic!

Honestly the songs... I love the mod menu but it's like....the songs seem so 'polished'.... zzzzzz. Just feels so boring. I wish he would've just worked with DDR folk to help improve the main game everyone's playing. DDR A + Kyle Ward's option menu would've been amazing.

@Hobbes That would have been interesting. Like that guy that modded Skyrim and got hired by Bethesda, or like DM Ashura's songs on the console DDRs.
My thoughts: Having a new center pad is almost like every chart is a shock arrow chart, but it also opens up new patterning options that could increase both variety and difficulty drastically for seasoned players. Adding the center pad is just enough to be legal as a standalone product, but that name... all I can think of is StepMania X and not Step Maniax.

Clearly dude is mad talented with rhythm games and has a lot of ideas. Just would be so awesome to see him embraced by Bemani / Konami instead of forced to do his own game...

If there's one thing that I'm sad to see (and I believe I mentioned this when Kyle first showed off the pads in the streams), it's that it wasn't the 9-panel pad that the very first teaser showed off. I would like to think that this is tied into the fact Step (not Dance. XD) ManiaX is going to be the first product that features the new pads and Kyle wants to wait until the machines/units sell well enough to warrant making the different configurations he's promising, but I still find it weird that it's now "up-down-left-right-center" without any diagonal arrows.
I'm still hopeful for the product (it has a decent songlist, and I like the touchscreen interface), and I'm hoping that my Round1 will carry it at some point like how they have both versions of ReRave... then again, we still don't have a NeonFM cabinet yet, to my knowledge.

The one in Moreno Valley at least has it (both the original with the giant touchscreen and Plus in the dedicab); can't say for sure if any of the other locations has them, but I would assume they do.

Dance ManiaX
I just wanted to point this out.
Also this game isn't for arcades, so is someone going to change the title of the thread accordingly?

Is the noteskin design final like it's on the videos? The middle note always looks smaller than the arrows, where in pump it feels equal sized.

Also this, neither 4 or 5 panel game has panels touching each other so up arrow will be the most prone to pressing the middle button. But this is chart design question, do you keep the middle button as a rare special feature, kinda like konami treats all new mechanic for like 5 games before they get imaginative with them, or use it straight out of the box like it's always been there. But then again here one foot stomps will be funnest ever with UC and DC. pump has them but there's still some of the ULDR panel corners on they way of them, and the Fiesta cabs we have are very stiff and i keep failing the basic 1,3,5 pattens unless i stomp them like a gorilla.Post #194 · Posted at 2017-01-11 01:08:16am 7.6 years ago

Dance ManiaX
I just wanted to point this out.
I didn't even notice until just now!
Gonna bet that won't be the last time people will mix up Step/Dance ManiaX by accident.

I would fucking hate to see him work with Bemani. I don't want a bloody monopoly being held on rhythm games.

I mean, I'm against BEMANI working with Kyle Ward, but implying that Kyle Ward is some kind of major player in the rhythm game market and that him working with Konami would cause a monolopy is kind of laughable. There are dozens of non-BEMANI music games that are far more popular and commercially successful than anything Kyle Ward ever worked on.

Name some aside from PIU. Yeah, Guitar Hero and Rock Band are the two most popular rhythm games and they're non-BEMANI, but they've hit the fan so badly it's unfunny. Kyle Ward going "hey, Bemani, I'll suck your dick if you give me exposure and make me relevant again" would probably set an example for others to fall in line too.

Those games all being more popular/commercially successful than anything Kyle Ward had a hand in?
Keeping in mind he had a hand in ITG, here.
