In my personal opinion, There hasn't been a Dancing with Intensity update for a while (I believe, IDK...) And since we all here use StepMania, Might as well just use the SM. format...//

the output from SM and DWI stepfiles in-game are still the same...
in comparison between them, DWI stepfiles have smaller size than SM.. so they load faster than SM files...
downfall for DWI files only are no movie code support and additional features not included from SM files


but since pre-Supernova games in Stepmania do not have background movies included and coded in the SM files... what are the updates from them?

hey is there a problem with the file?? when i load it into my Songs folder SM doesn't pick it up and i cant choose it in my music selection, anyone else having this problem??

sillybear: Actually, DWI is now in my opinion a dead project and we are now using the .SM file which is a much better than .DWI' s though you might say that .SM has a much bigger file size. But .SM has much better features than .DWI files.

megabeatmanmania: Uhm, try to reload the cache in the game through the Options Mode anyways...

DWI does not support the edit difficulty which is total crap. An the sm format is easier to read and more managable.

Yup, silenttype01. You got it... I'm seconding it.

The things is, if you edit a chart, it saves it as .dwi and .sm and generates .old files for both.

But .sm is capable of using more features and is easier to edit manually because the codes are less complicated and more in-line with StepMania (the "gap" number and 0,2,4,6,8,A,B,!,(,), etc. are really hard to interpret as the linear numbers/notes displayed in the SM editor).

Suggestions for Al:

-All Japanese songtitles and/or japanese artist-text banners from all series should be replaced into English from SN and up banners (e.g. All Riyu Kosaka songs, Blue Impluse, Calico Cat Rock etc.)

- All ES and EES boss songs titles and artist should be displayed in red color banner in songwheel (by adding #MENUCOLOR:RED; in SM/DWI stepfiles)

- All Long songs (in some 5thMix songs and in DDRX Xmixes) should be displayed in purple (#MENUCOLOR:#FB00FB;)

- 5 for you. Stop making demands, if you don't like the way alan does things here, then don't download anything from here. He's not gonna change them just because you say so. If he doesn't want to, then he's not gonna, plus I like the japanese better anyway. If you want it done so bad, then do it yourself in your own stepmania, specially the color changes , the banners can be found in the graphics thread, so go look for them, lazy.

They release a new pack of 20 every few months. They're up over 900 total so far. Look through the news updates on stepmania.com to spot the last time they released a pack. It's interesting to note that they provide .ogg/.sm versions of the files as well as the other versions.

As for the .sm vs .dwi debate, I'm in favor of using .sm, because rhythmatic's chart viewer is better than the one that's used for dwi's, and for the reasons silenttype01 listed. Plus, if I ever take a file to play on an r21 machine, I just have to convert the mp3 to ogg, I don't have to convert the .dwi to .sm.
As for the loading time, that's completely bogus. I really doubt you know how Stepmania loads files up, and what factors into loading time. Size is only a small part of it, the complexity of the parser matters more than size for small files. Neither of us knows whether the dwi parser or the sm parser is more complex, so loading time is a pointless thing to bring up.

In fact, I just first read DJjeff comment that led me to tell, "Hey! I'm not really demanding... i just put suggestions in it"
If Alan won't, then it's fine.
And besides, there is no reason to don't like the way Alan does everything in here... and also i never ask Alan to put back the DWI files
that were used to be before for pre-SN songs. Just seeking for explanations about them. Now i'm done reading them.

Back on topic: so how do 1st-5th mix songs work? What was the PS1 DDR's encoding at? Or will you just use a V-RARE or CD?

V-rares only contain about 12 tracks.

If Al isn't able to rip them the way he has been doing with the others so far, he's going to be using the soundtracks as a base and work from there.

hey i got it working finally. idk if it was the reloading that did the trick, but i found it under the Numbers selection because the song was named "2Mind Parasite". At least i got , thank you very much.

..... dammit! I knew I forgot to fix something. thanks for pointing that out.
