You don't need to use the R button for anything in the pokemon games, at least not in silver/gold, anyway.

I still haven't got the game..it's not yet released here in the Philippines. But I'm asking a friend in London to buy me both HG and SS..hehe same game but for completion of Pokedex purposes =)..hows the game so far? I'm patiently waiting for the delivery and really really excited about it

Starting on Thursday, there will be an event where you can capture Pikachu that knows either Surf, Fly, or Volt Tackle, via the pokewalker.

addendum: I got a chance to look at Vol 2 of the HG/SS guide which covers the Kanto region also...
*you can take a picture with the Gym Leaders (both Kanto and Johto) and trade pokemon with them (yes you can now trade pokemon with the Gym Leaders)
*Choose a Kanto Starter Pokemon at Professor Oak's Lab
*Choose a Honen Starter Pokemon in Saffron City
*Capture Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza
though these can only be done after you have defeated Ash (Red) @ Mt. Silver, but isn't so cool to do those.

The only thing I didn't know about was the pictures and vol.2 being released already.
I refuse to fight Red at this point. I would annihilate him with my leafgreen team, so I'm just transferring the rest of my pokemon from leafgreen to silver. And I'm still trying to get a Flychu aargh.

I got Flychu..but I kinda I still haven't gotten PikaSurf..the volumes you are talking about are guidebooks? I think it's not available her in the Philippines but I really wanted to get one. I got SoulSilver btw

Yes, we are talking about the guide books. check on Amazon.com they should have copies available for purchase. Not sure if you guys have a Borders or Gamestop in the Phillippines.

haven't heard anything about Gamestop here though. But I'll try amazon..i'm trying to start my Pokemon collection too..and may find cool stuffs there..

oft hand no, cause I haven't bought the 2nd Vol. yet. Though there is one thing i hope that is true is the "GB Player" its an item you obtain in Goldenrod City, when activated you'll able to listen to the original game boy music of G/S/C. At the moment I'm at Cianwood (sp?) City Lvling up my pokemon via pokewalker, cause my pokemon are too low lvl to go after chuck.

I got some tips:
you can capture a Farfetch'd pretty early in the game, along with a Scyther. Catch one of those so that one of them can learn False Swipe, which will make it easier and less time consuming when going after the legendary pokemon that are found in the game.
I currently have two Farfetch'd and a Marowak that knows False Swipe.

i have scyther from bug contest and farfetch'd caught in a route between ecruteak and olivine
