Do freeze jumps count as 1 or 2? I'm assuming it counts as one for each arrow, but I prefer to ask anyways
oh, I want to add something: It was very difficult to rate Week 1 files (all), there are a loooot of good files and steppers.

Congratulations to TikalFan9000! You are automatically enlisted into the VIP room for taking the gold medal! As for everyone else, good job! Keep working into the 4th week, and remember to get your votes out for the 2nd and 3rd week!
For those who finished under the average score, work harder! You have plenty of room for improvement, so take this as a learning experience!

I'd say freeze jumps count as two, considering how jump arrows have counted as one in modern DDR.
Also, glad you loved them all! There's a lot more where those came from!
(You heard him, folks! Keep making those simfiles!)

Why are all of PenTA_'s scores out of 5 instead of out of 10?

IMPORTANT: Due to some scoring difficulties, these results are not the final results, as the outliers and given votes were not counted. I am currently in the process of correcting this, I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks, KexMiX. I was kind of in a zombie-like state while calculating, so I know they aren't 100% accurate.

I don't want to be this guy, but does everyone here know how to use a 10-point scale? A lot of functional charts (including mine) got scores below 5 and I'm confused by what people are considering "bad" charts.
Imo a 10-point scale is:
10 = Perfect
9 = Excellent
8 = Great
7 = Good
6 = Decent
5 = Okay
4 = Iffy
3 = Bad
2 = Terrible
1 = DEGRS

well, there are people who are hesitant to even THINK about going below 5 so it's not the biggest shock that there's someone who hesitates to go above 5

Fair, I can be one of those people (I didn't give anyone below a 4). I just think calling everyone's work mediocre at best is...harsh.

I have to admit that I used t7r's rate scale because it was pretty accurate for every score. Even though, I still do think that there is good material presented in this competition. Also, if you're not being objective considering things such as graphics, steps, "experience" and also if the song is your taste or not*, you're not doing it right, sweetie.
*Aserejé, for example. the file is pretty good, but!... I was so dissapointed when I heard it because I thought it was going to be the original version... ;_;

results
Don't think it's fair that PenTA_ got bumped down by quite a bit due to his low voting average. I think we should consider other ways of calculating the final results until declaring these results final. I'm hoping that would avoid issues with voting later on in this contest.
Removing the outliers has not been extensively tested, and it does seem to create some issues in this method of calculation.
I am proposing this way of calculating the results.
Subtract the average vote of each voter from their own votes (this makes the average 0 for each voter).
Then, remove the high and low outliers for each simfile.
Then total/average these adjusted votes excluding the outliers. (It doesn't matter if you total or average, it doesn't affect the relative positions at all. Averaging might be nicer and keeps with what has previously been done)
This should fix it so that about the same number of outliers will be removed from each voter, and about the same high as low outliers removed for each voter.
I am away from my computer rn, but when I get back to it, I will try to calculate the results in this way, and see if it fixes the issue.

So if you just rate everything a 10, would that boost your score in this contest? I don't get it.

Hey guys. I'm playing through Week 2's files right now and I wanted to give a few playability suggestions that might not be immediately obvious to newer steppers:
1)Please be careful with BPM changes. Pay attention to the drumbeat of the song -- if the snare is suddenly hitting at half or double speed, or things suddenly feel a lot quieter or more dragged out, that's the time to add a slowdown or a speedup. In addition, be mindful of random speedup bursts -- as someone who uses an M mod on charts, it sucks to read 95% of the chart at a low speed just because of one sudden 300+ bpm section for two measures.
2) Doublesteps aren't inherently bad and there's a lot of files so far that use them well (look at Chewi and Talkion's wk 1 files as a good example). But one place you have to be careful about flow is with freezes, since a lot of freezes force turns and end up with you spinning in awkward directions as a result. If you're going to chart a freeze section, make sure you're not forcing the player into weird turns, or patterns that are impossible to execute without dropping a hold.
3) Your chart should have the player changing direction frequently -- do not chart so that the player is mostly facing to the left or right. This is a cornerstone of a lot of Kyle Ward's charts in ITG, and there's a reason why people think the charts in that game are bland -- there's not a lot of motion in half of them.
4) I'm going to try to say this in the nicest way possible: your chart is not an art project. By that I mean, all steps should be clearly marked as steps, stutter gimmicks that drop the chart to 3 FPS and make it nigh unreadable shouldn't be used, messing with note quantization or forcing a lower BPM just for the hell of it is unfair...I hope I don't need to call specific people out, although it seems like t7r is on the same page as me in his reviews.
5) I really don't advise anyone to risk charting anything above a 13-14 if you're new to stepping -- bad patterning in a 12 is way more manageable than bad patterning in an 18. Like people always say in writing, learn the rules before you start to break them.
6) This is a little nitpicky, but please check your ratings before submitting your charts. I'm seeing way too many 180bpm 16th bursts in charts below 15. Look at Konami's ratings from A onwards if you need a guide since they're pretty consistent.
Hope this helps someone out there in the coming weeks

Appreciate these tips eataninja! This should be very useful especially to the newer competitors.
Oh right here's my feedback for the 6 files of Week 3 (CRASH!, fffff, Honeypie, LOL, Kiss Me More, polyriddim only):
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14KKT8BU7goEzl_MkKv2mfnhwmcygIFci1Yp-A3_B4cc/
Hope this helps in preparation for your Week 4 files.
Those 6 are the ones I thought that need the most improvement before the results came out; I'll probably do the other ones that also rank low within the next few days. Hopefully I finish everyone's files by Friday or Saturday like usual.
Good luck with your files and try not to rush for the sake of it!
