Request: Chat moderators

I really think the Zenius -I- vanisher needs them at this point. There are repeated times when people start bad-mouthing others when they aren't there (or even are on there), being obnoxious, among other things, and it's a recipe to divide the community into half, cause drama, what have you. Other chatrooms I've visited have dedicated moderators, why doesn't this one?

I don't mind the idea but holy shit you guys aren't being constructive. Only Aegis explained why he doesn't like it. Is it really that hard to explain why you don't support the idea?

To clarify, I don't love the idea, but I don't hate it either. It could help with seriously awful shit being posted, or could straighten out other stuff.

I'll just say what I said in the chat. I think conflict is a normal part of social interaction and not something that needs to be squashed. The chat doesnt need to be a positive safe space where theres no negativity. Plus, I dont think the chat ever really becomes chaotic to the point of being unmanageable as it is.

Okay, well first of all, Oni is a regular in the chat, so if anything goes on when he's around, I'm sure he'll do something about it.
Second of all, what is there to dictate that something is a moderator-intervening situation? There's going to be conflict in any place, there's nothing any moderator can do without straight up censoring people.
Third, if you don't like what's going on in the chat, there is nothing preventing you from leaving and coming back. If people having an argument or people saying things you don't like is bothering you THAT much, just leave. Or uncheck them and move on.
Fourth, nothing ever majorly chaotic happens in the chat, nothing that would require moderator action. Sometimes people argue, and sometimes certain users try to start drama, and sometimes certain users shitpost spam. Oh well. That's the nature of a public chat. On a public website. That you use for free.

This is outdated, but I'll keep it here anyway.

I'm not saying that the rules have to be strict, just that there needs to be some sort of line. The forums have generally been a peaceful environment, but the chat's hasn't really been that friendly, especially in the past few days.

mostly because the chat is an easy place to go "hey, could you stop posting complete shit? thanks" and doing it on a thread would be considered disruptive

In my opinion, supervising a chat is really difficult. There are lot of people who chatting day and night and you can't notice if someone is commiting a drama or bad behavior.

presumably forum mods can ban or disable chat for a user if it's really important so effectively there already is chat moderation?

I could tell you random is an obnoxious tool that borders on harassing a lot of people in chat but nothing I bet has been done for that.
