How do I add my own random movies to SM? I tried doing that once back in 2010, but when my random movie was supposed to pop up it shows a black background instead.
I want to record some animations I like and be able to use them as random backgrounds. One of them I want to use is screensavers that I like.

Well one thing that I spent alot of time on is making the movies a low enough resolution size (like 320x240) because my netbook is all i got and i is Shit-shitty-Shit so i had to have low enough size to not effect the game. Randomly loading and switching in songs isnt a problem for most, but I do notice some movies can slow down the whole thing QUICK. But after you got the right size-bitrate...
But since i know nothing about fancy SM scripts (never learned >_>) I grabbed some .SM files from arcade songs, and followed the "movie change" parts, and lined em with what file names i had in the "Background movies" folder.
To be honest, your BEST bet is to make a big .AVI file movie just for that song, and compile all the clips you want into one file. It feels more unique to me if that video is for oe song specially. Otherwise its fairly simple.
In the song edit in SM, press B nad that adds "BG pic/movies" Go to bottom and select a movie on that line, and hit ENTER. Its not too hard, all the fancy effects and stuff arn't used too often (As i can tell) outside the AC movies to make a 2-3sec clip look different.

For random movies? All you have to do is put your video file in the "RandomMovies" folder in your StepMania installation. If it's not there already, make a folder called "RandomMovies" (without the quotes of course). Then, in StepMania itself, you have to go to Appearance Options and select "Random Movies".
For adding your own BG movies through the editor? Do what Bridget said.
Hope this helped.
