So the odds are that Konami probably won't make another beatmania IIDX game for the US or Europe, so I have a question - if YOU were in charge of creating a beatmania US sequel, what would you include? Interfaces, music, modes, anything.

I don't really see the old model (on-disc game, one-time purchase) working in this generation. Something that would work is a free-to-play (like jubeat or REFLEC BEAT plus) game, with extra content being added as pay content.
Oh wait. That's INFINITAS.

While I do agree INFINITAS is a good idea, I personally think that if beatmania was to be released on consoles, it would be plausible to use the 'old model', considering that Rock Band and Guitar Hero are both getting revived with physical peripherals. Assuming that Blu-Ray is used, Konami/Bemani should be able to cram in a good portion of the current AC songlist, if not the entire set. Add in 20-30 new license tracks to attract a broader audience, some unlockable revivals from earlier 5 key/7 key mixes, and an excellent controller, and this theoretical beatmania software should provide an amazing value to consumers (provided that the majority of the songs are reasonably easy to access or unlock without having to pay extra) and stand its own against competitors.
I've also considered the idea of using touch devices to provide an accessible alternative to the controller (via a free mobile application), though since I haven't played much beatmania myself, this idea would probably manifest into a casual-level controller at best.

Having a "touch-based controller" for beatmania/IIDX would not work well. With the complex nature of the notecharts, the physical controller is necessary so that you always have a feel for where each key and the turntable is.

Do keep in mind, though, that Rock Band and Guitar Hero are both series that have already been established, while IIDX is a completely unfamiliar game to most people.
