"Let's Do the Rain Dance" |
So this thread is happening and it's finally brought to my mind a big problem when this stuff happens: veterans and otherwise nice users pounce at the opportunity to joke, be crass, and in common terms "s***post", which, even after the thread is locked, tends not to lead to negative consequence for those secondary parties and pads out their post count, making them look even more prestigious as a result.
Well, I don't know what to do about negatives (since there a fair amount of legitimate posts in these types of threads before they derail) but one way to deal with the lasting impact is to have a manual lock option for moderators/admins to label a thread as derailed/s***posted, which would make posts from the thread not count for users' totals. I think this could help demotivate users from jumping on the bandwagon as there won't be a trophy in the form of adding to your post count for doing so.
In addition, there should also be an option for moderators to do a similar thing with major sticky threads that fall in the off-topic/drama range. I of course mainly point to Let it Out, as it is severely prone to the same types of vulgarity and arguments that these other threads get locked for, but it is protected due to its prestige.
I don't know if these ideas could be implemented, but I think they could greatly aid the overall feel of the forums to not see 2 or 3 of these incidents every couple of days spiral out of control.

I can sort of agree and understand where you're coming from with this. It's kind of like the asshats on reddit who make posts every single second just for upvotes/karma.

I think there should be a voting to lock thread system like if it gets 50+ votes to lock. All of the moderators get an email and it will be locked. Unless al can combine an auto lock once it reaches 50+ votes.

I think a report topic/post button could be a nice addition to the site.
