Not sure if it is just me, but there are times (a LOT of times) where my Esc key/Back input doesn't work at all when using Stepmania 5 on my laptop (I have a new one by the way). It doesn't even work on Test Input, but it's still properly mapped. It's really a big issue for me because whenever I accidentally enter something I don't like and want to go back, I can't. I literally have to close Stepmania 5 and open it again just to restart. Waiting for a few minutes, or even hours, isn't an option either.

If all else fails...go to options/config key and replace "back" with another key like "-".

That's odd I never had that problem, but then again I'm running SSC.

I have this issue also. I think it has something to do with that key being used in another program you have open? I don't know, I'm just guessing. To get around it, I just mapped another back button.
I had this issue with not being able to take screenshots because I set up Dropbox to save screenshots, but once I disabled that I could take screenshots again.
