If I get SuperNOVA JP for my JP PS2, how will I know how to unlock the songs if everything is in Japanese?

That's EXACTLY what I needed. Thanks. Also: can I unlock songs just by playing, like I can in SN2? I know it would take longer, but is it possible?

No, you cannot. Unlocks in SN1 are through Stellar Master Mode only, sadly.
