Everyone stepchart maker should have a favourite stepchart that they've made. So, I created this thread to discuss your personal best. I'll start the discussion by bringing up my stepchart for a cut of "White Walls" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. It's an old scale 7. I gave it a 10 on the DDR X rating system, but an 11 would also be acceptable. Here's the chart: http://youtu.be/P1e3coPlbgo
I've shared my favourite. Now you can share yours!

Sorry to do this, but I have a few criticisms:
No, that's definitely not possible to be an 11. In fact, this chart is disappointingly easy. Right now, I'm working on Can't Hold Us, one of Macklemore's other singles, and one thing both songs have in common is very fast rap. It's just begging to be charted to the rap, but you only use 8th streams. There's one part where I can hear a background melody you follow, but everywhere else it seems like a copout.
My other major complaint is that the flow frequently breaks, and it doesn't seem intentional. From the very beginning, one faces to the upper left to hit the first notes, then cross for the up-right, then spins in a confusing way that (if the player doesn't follow) throws the whole flow out until after the intro. In the chorus, on the "midnight drive" part, the up-right-down pattern again causes you to spin in full, not something that most players would do in that way, in which case this again throws off the whole flow for them. In the postchorus and once in the outro, there are 3 left-down-left patterns that fall into this same trap.
If I had to choose my favorite chart solely on its value as a casual chart, I'd say it was either of these:
If it was more based on how much blood, sweat, and tears went into it, I'd say it was any of these:

How do you people DO this shit without taking 10 years to build the chart?

So basically you have to play a platformer through the first half of the song to determine how severe the mods are during the second half. The chart also gives both players one of two difficulties on the fly because I made it for DOWNS 4 (which ironically I can't even go to anymore because of personal stuff) and I didn't want people to memorize the chart.
There's a bit of sound lag on the video, sorry.
Good idea for a thread, I may add.

Thank StepMania 5's ability to implement warps, which is honestly a godsend. Plus, all it takes is just backtracking and finding the balance between playability and mindfuckability.Post #8 · Posted at 2014-01-20 03:21:57am 11.4 years ago

"Let's Do the Rain Dance" |
Criticisms regarding the Oh Nick Please Not So Quick chart:
-Why didn't you follow the eurobeat melody and beat along with the dj scratches leading to the final choruses? Unless the reason you claim it as your favorite is because it mimics the old style (while having holds), it just seems to be a standard filler chart.
Criticisms regarding the GIRIGIRI DADDY chart:
-It's very easy to misinterpret the last part of the chorus (Up-down hold then Down-right hold), turning your left foot to the right and messing up your flow for the next stream.
-I'm listening to the post-chorus before the verse, and all I hear are 8th notes. Fake difficulty.
I thought the first chart was pretty great. As to why I'm doing all this criticism in this thread: I'm not exactly sure, but I hope it's constructive at the very least. Plus, it's nice getting notifs from this page.

^ Don't worry, I definitely appreciate your criticism
Yeah I intended the ONPNSQ chart to be similar to old-style, except make it less jumpy and more freeze. Are you sure you don't hear the sixteenths in GIRIGIRI DADDY after the first chorus? I definitely do. They're kinda quiet though...

Sadly, this is the best I've managed so far:
I've made a few changes to it since then.

HealingDMax300, here's my best tip: after you write a section or 2 of notes, try foot testing it, preferably with a chunk of the previous segment. Check to see if you have to reset your foot position because they get tangled trying to follow the flow. I did so, and literally every single one of the opening streams forces me to reset rather clumsily. It's actually rather consistent across the whole chart, unfortunately.

Thanks for the tip. Here's another one that's better than I usually do, but still meh:
Again, made a few changes after I uploaded it.

These. The first is my favorite chart of regular length, the second is my favorite marathon chart I think (unreleased)
Edit: The marathon chart isn't that exciting until maybe 5:25 but past that

"hi" |
I've made a lot of edits and I am always proud of them and like to play them over and over again. A lot of the time, though, I get bored of the charts and don't play them for a while and forget how they went, so that makes it hard to choose just a couple of my best edits.
I guess I can just post my most recent YouTube edit. I like this one still. If I come up with ones I remember that I like. I haven't given it a rating yet, but I think it might be a 12 or 13 on the X-scale and an 8 or 9 on the old scale.
