I am an absolute total newb to the competitive side of DDR and was hoping you guys could fill me in with some basic information. I'm more interested in following it for now but don't have the skills to take part! Smile

What would you say is the highest accolade in terms of which DDR competitions are out there around the globe?
Is DDR still the strongest dance machine community compared to, say, ITG? (I guess it may get a little bias here Wink )
Who are the best players out there at the moment? Any up and comers I should keep an eye on?

Any other information or links you can suggest for someone fresh in the game!

Thanks

- KAC (Konami Arcade Championship) is definitely the biggest DDR tournament in the world, considering it's officially run. Though, it's limited to just Japan I believe. I'm from the USA (chillin' in Japan for a bit though) so I don't know how other countries work, but as for the US, any tournaments are typically small in size and scope. People used to fly cross-country for tournaments but that just doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

- It's definitely not as popular in the US as ITG is currently, but (in my opinion) this is more of a result of the lack of good machines/newest mixes in the US. In Japan, the arcade I play at usually has lines for both DDR machines, and people of all skill levels play. DDR 2013 is definitely popular over here. If we're going by sheer numbers (active players), then DDR wins by a longshot. But it's kind of hard to compare, since the games are fairly isolated to their home countries.

- BROSONI destroys the more difficult spectrum of songs, getting PFCs on numerous 18s. UMEHARA! has insane MA and many MFCs. TADACHAN is similar in that respect, but I would argue has even more consistent MA. Dr.D (Taiwan) has a ton of PFCs, is a very well-rounded player, and has pretty good MA to boot. And I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I'm considered one of the best players outside of Japan. I've been here for a little over 2 months and have gotten many world records, including the first PFC on PARANOiA Revolution ESP, but sadly I leave soon so I'll be retreating back into the shadows shortly.
