Oh hey look it's that time of year again
PyroManiacX is usually the guy that starts these threads, but he hasn't been around in a little while, so I'll jump on it~
The contest takes place in Malmö this year, since Loreen swept away the audience for Sweden with Euphoria in 2012. Semifinals are on the 14th and 16th of May, and the final is on the 18th.
There are 39 countries participating this year. The official Eurovision YT channel's been nice enough to organize the entries:
* Semi-Final 1
* Semi-Final 2
* Grand Final
My personal faves so far:
Bulgaria (so percussive!)
Denmark
Netherlands
Slovenia (I feel bad for liking this one so much but it's so damn catchy)
Greece
Montenegro (leaving aside the wubs, this is pretty good. unfortunately, the wubs)
F.Y.R. Macedonia (no really)

So far my favorites are Greece and Armenia, followed by Spain. Honestly though I don't even understand why Denmark has such a hype around it... a boring song and the vocalist hits almost every note slightly out of tune... and Norway is also a disappointment, a good metal song they had in the final got robbed by their current entry...

Even so, Norway actually have a good chance of winning the thing too. Really am liking that one, electronica with a sick bass and live drums <3

Favoring Serbia this year, but I don't think they'll stand a chance in the votes.

"Cipela" (from 2009) would like to have a word with you.
But still I think Serbia might qualify again, even though it feels like those three seem to belong to Junior ESC to me.

One of them did. She came 3rd in JESC 2007.Post #8 · Posted at 2013-05-02 04:28:08am 11.3 years ago
UK's entry is decent this year... but it's not going to win, or come close.
I really love Glorious, but that shouldn't be surprising considering my music tastes.
Ireland's is good too.
Italy is also. Those sideburns tho
Spain... I like it, but the vocals are not what I'd expect from a rock song.
Sweden is decent, but the vocalist seemed offkey in the live performance. Like it otherwise.
Austria's is pretty good.
I don't feel like listening to any more, I'll probably just wait to hear the rest.
Edit: Listened a little to Denmark, it's pretty good.

My opinions so far...
------------------------------
Top 10 (no particular order):
------------------------------
Denmark - Emmelie de Forest / Only Teardrops
Finland - Krista Siegfrids / Marry Me
Germany - Cascada / Glorious
Ireland - Ryan Dolan / Only Love Survives
Netherlands - Anouk / Birds
Norway - Margaret Berger / I Feed You My Love
Serbia - Moje 3 / Ljubav je Svuda
Sweden - Robin Stjernberg / You
Ukraine - Zlata Ognevich / Gravity
United Kingdom - Bonnie Tyler / Believe in Me
Russia is not here due to a lack of space but it deserves as much love as the songs above.
---------------------
National selections:
---------------------
Albania - I didn't watch Festivali i Këngës 2012, so I can't say if Identitet was a good choice.
Austria - Falco Luneau's Rise Above the Night is the winner for me.
Estonia - Grete Paia's Päästke noored hinged is the winner for me. It's hard to believe she was the public favourite, with 26% more votes than Birgit, but still lost in the Super Final, that was televote only.
Moldova - Everything else is the winner for me. Well, maybe not everything, but I counted 8 out of 13 other finalists I'd prefer to see representing Moldova. Damn you, Pasha Parfeny!
Norway - If it wasn't for Margaret Berger, I'd want to see Sirkus Eliassen's I Love You Te Quiero in Malmö.
Sweden - Robin Stjernberg is a well deserved winner of Melodifestivalen, but I'd be happy with Ulrik Münther's Tell the World I'm Here and (why not?) Yohio's Heartbreak Hotel, too.
This is what I say about Ukraine. Maybe B&H and Russia, too.

Solayoh in a nutshell...
Nothing else on that year makes sense to me after Lithuania qualified, while Poland and Netherlands got last place in their semi-finals.

And Greece. How else can you explain Watch My Dance winning the semi in 2011?

Identical to mine, just not in the same order.
I'm a bit unsure about Slovenia, though. They can get support from Croatia and Serbia and take the place of Austria, that will have to depend on itself. Both countries don't have a good qualification history, too, so it's a bit hard to guess. If wasn't for the jury vote, I'd be unsure about Estonia's qualification, too.

"Let's Do the Rain Dance" |
SingStar appears to be getting in on this year's competition. This Wednesday, we'll have 6 tracks in the store:
Bonnie Tyler - Believe in Me (UK)
Dina Garipova - What If (Russia)
Emmelie de Forest - Only Teardrops (Denmark)
Krista Sigfrids - Marry Me (Finland)
Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love (Norway)
Robin Stjernberg - You (Sweden)
We also apparently get either a promotional sale (Europe only, sadly) for past Eurovision songs and/or more tracks soon.
Judging by opinions here, they look like good picks.

Almost all songs, if not all of them, seems to make an even less impressive performance than how it sounded originally...
*sigh* Oh well, it will only get better on Thursday...

That's live performances for you.
That host lady is disturbing, maaaan. It's like she learnt her English from a 1950s matron.
