Anyone knows how to do this/done this before? I want to do some lineout-ing but I don't know how and what are the things needed.

I assume by upgrade cab you mean the older 573 cabinets? If so, there should be VGA out on the back as well as stereo RCA for the sound.

There's a device called a Dazzle which converts common multimedia plugs to USB and includes encoding software, easy and cheap way to bring audio and video into a notebook. If all you want is the audio, most notebooks have line in so you just need an L+R RCA to 8mm converter and use something like Audacity to record the input.

You'd have to take a picture of the DDR machine in question.

Some DDR machines output 640 x 480 / 320 x 240 @ 15.7 khz, whereas the newer red bodied machines output 640 x 480 @ 31 khz.

Once you have got back with the type of machine you want to line-out from, I'll find you the cheapest/best route.

They're red bodied.

and I need some cable (male/male RCA i guess?) to connect from the cab to the converter/adapter?

The 15-pin connector is pin compatible to VGA; be careful though as signal voltages may be different (higher) if its anything like the outputs on a 573.

So for sounding really dumb, but I have zero experience in this.

I don't even know what kind of cables do I need, what cables goes where... so if you're willing to elaborate on that it will be much appreciated.

This could get interesting. As soon as I find my original Xbox cables (still looking for them), then I'll be able to do line outs with the Ultramix series. Also as soon as I get money for the parts needed to do this.

You'll need a male to male VGA cable and male to male S-Video cable (if you want to do video). Then male to male RCA audio cables (red and white) for audio.

VGA is VGA is VGA, regardless of country of origin. If the connector deviates from the standard at all, since it was put there to facilitate video out, it's been horribly miswired.

Just a heads up, from what I've seen certain cabinets do NOT have their lineout ports hooked up by default. In terms of 573 cabinets, I've only tried on ones with Extreme (not that it should matter) and they were fine, but SN and SN2 cabinets vary. I've seen one SN cabinet that appeared to have them installed by Betson, whereas one SN2 cabinet had neither the VGA nor the RCA audio hooked up. I'm assuming this could be to trim down on production costs, or simply because they're rarely used outside of Japanese arcades.

I eventually just bought an RCA to headphone adapter from RadioShack so you'd just need to plug the RCA cables in to see if they worked, without having to tow along a full capture setup.

Bumping this.

Since the links I got are all UK links (I'm in Singapore), can someone confirm that this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PC-Laptop-VGA-to-TV-RCA-Composite-S-video-Converter-Box-/180681527665 can work also?

So what I'm getting is this:

DDR cab -> VGA cable -> VGA to RCA converter -> RCA yellow + S-Video cables -> EZCap -> Laptop/Computer via USB
v---------> RCA (red+white) ------------------------------------------------------------^

Is this correct?

BUMP: So I encountered a problem. I got this, for all settings I used (some settings give black and white instead).

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/40407085/piccie/2012_12_24_18_43_43.bmp

The audio jack worked though, I can do recording through that. Anyone knows what's the problem with this? Prompt help would be awesome.

(i presume it outputs PAL?)

I can't help you much on this. But i can tell you what i've seen/know.

DDR in Japan they're NTSC. I'll say try NTSC.
NTSC 3.58 is pure US and Japan TV system. NTSC 4.43 is used on PAL video recorders which can play NTSC on PAL and allow reproduction of American video tape on PAL TV. NTSC 4.43 is also known as NTSC-J. It is a “PAL-type” NTSC in that it uses the same sub-carrier color frequency as PAL (in comparison to o NTSC-J (4.43) is used only in Japan. NTSC-M (3.58) is used elsewhere in other NTSC countries.

Can anyone confirm a good setup to stream on a red cab?

If someone can tell me exactly what I need I am willing to stream a lot in the coming weeks to show off the new DDR game.

Bumping this thread because I'm interested in using lineouts for future DDR videos too (and almost everything in this thread is unconfirmed or left unanswered). Basically dittoing this:

From what I understand so far, the VGA to RCA converter and EZCap (any model) are the only things I need to buy (for Asian DDR upgrade cabinets)?
And this is the best way to set it up?

"OMG KON!"
Red cabinets run at 31khz so just get a device to get VGA over to something more standard for capture, like component, composite or s-video.

If I wanted to use my elgato this is how I would set it up...
DDR Machine -> VGA to component adapter -> elgato game capture (component in) -> computer.
Audio would go right from the PCB straight to the elgato input.

So what you posted on the bottom of your post would be correct, yes. Just for the love of god try to avoid using composite the quality is ass.

True, although composite is a much cheaper option than the elgato. [What's the exact resolution on upgrade cabinets? I'm pretty sure it's not in HD, so I don't really need the elgato anyway.]

So S-video in Silverhawke's setup above works? Or what about composite?
