Not sure if right thread but I am having another issue in Stepmania. I am having a hard time saving simfiles I am doing. I can't really explain this but this is how it happened:
I was doing a simfile for Call Me Maybe and I wanted to change the offset because it felt a little off-sync. The offset was -0.289000 and I changed it to -0.288750 and it applied to all difficulties. I saved it and when I went back, it was the original; -289000. I even changed it on the .ssc file on Notepad then saved it but it stays the same. I also tried to reload songs/courses but it failed.
I DO NOT want to re-step it again because it is very time-consuming and I can't think of good step patterns for people who play it. I need help with it and I must have a solution right away so it won't happen in my future works..

You should probably stay away from SM5 entirely, because it seems that the introduction of .ssc files has been causing problems left and right. I highly suggest you get SM4.

Sometimes the offset auto-rounds to the thousandths place. Is there a chance you could input a different offset that would still be on rhythm with your steps?

Nope. It's just not going to work out, as long as you're using SM5, period.

Make sure you're in Song Timing mode, and not Step Timing mode, when you adjust your offset (use the 't' key to switch between them and look to the lower-right corner of the edit window to check). When you adjust the offset, you'll also have to reset each chart to that offset, by switching back to Step Timing and using "Erase Step Timing" from the F4 timing menu.
If all else fails, edit the .sm manually with the new offset and delete the .ssc and .old files, then reload sims. The .ssc format stores all timing data separately for each chart, but any Song Timing data is saved to the same place in the file that it is for the .sm format.
KNS-17's point is also valid - only SM5 can use any precision beyond three decimal places, so changing the offset from -0.289000 to -0.288750 makes no difference in any older version.
NuVirus: SM4 is broken and dead, why recommend it instead of 3.95/oITG?

I don't see SM 3.95 being available for Macintosh anytime soon.

Until 3.95, and oITG are available for MAC, I'm sorry but, I'm just going to have to disagree with you guys.

I'm using MAC, and I cannot use 3.9, because I have the following issues with it:
1. It only works on full screen for me. Therefore, if it crashes (it does so half of the time I use it), I have to waste my time unplugging & re-plugging in my MAC.
2. Without compatibility with rolls, there goes half of my simfiles, and other stuff I would've played on 3.9
Let's just say I have a "worst case scenario" of a situation, just because I have a have a MAC.

Well, too bad for you then, since this thread is about black4ever's setup.

Are you on Windows 7?
Is SM installed in Program Files?
Did you edit the SM file in game or in notepad/other text editor?

Is it installed under C:\Program Files?
If so, all of your saved data from inside SM is saving it to another directory.

Everything about that statement is just wrong. StepMania 5 has no more issues than any other version of StepMania, the biggest one being that it tries to save things all over the computer (on Windows machines only). Which is a VERY easy fix. And recommending a very unstable build in its place is not going to help anyone.
StepMania 5 runs in all modes on all major operating systems, it has the most advanced editor and still makes perfectly fine .sm files. And, if you follow the instructions in the link above, it saves everything right where it's suppose to.
black, can I ask if you're trying to edit the text documents while StepMania is running?

I use SM3.9+REDUX with EditorSavePlusFeatures set to off. No extra useless tags or numbers in sm files indeed.
SM5's ssc files saves individual offset data per difficulty.

My portable HDD brings up UAC prompts when I open certain files on windows vista.
You may have to start SM5 with admin privileges.

Ack. I just realized that I changed the offset of the song in SONG TIMING MODE, not Step Timing Mode. Goodness how stupid am I.
