Yeah, not surprising at all.
I'd like a definitive answer on the US though.

You won't get a better answer than maybe: "Japan said no."

Well hmm... i guess that's why i stopped playing seriously ddr more than a year ago, no future (X2 was broken in EU and i was sure it won't get fixed. We didn't got X3 we won't get X4).
I have more future on itg because it's the open source game (even if for me it's not that much possible to play).
Ofc the sells are really bad, less arcade that we have, less players we have... and less player that we have less arcade we get. That's the snake eating his own tail.

Well, when you charge a 5 figure sum for a TERRIBLY made cab, in a market where most arcades would happily pay a quarter of that price for a EuroMix that does the same job with fewer songs and a better constructed cab, I'm really not surprised.

I'm very impressed that you got such a candid answer. I'll give Konami props for that at least.

If only we had more Japanese DDR X upgrades.
If only I had £2250 to fork out for one.

Based off of this, I think that DDR II/Hottest Party 5 was the last horrah for the western world.
There isn't even a new CS coming out this year.
And it's sad that KONAMI's isn't trying to reach out other games like BM IIDX or jubeat to western markets (and I don't mean the iOS ports, I mean actual arcade machines.). I could be wrong though. I think that these games might gain some popularity around here, but not nearly as much as DDR did.

I know I'm going to get slammed for this, but honestly, what KONAMI has been doing lately in terms of DDR isn't quite amusing to me, so it's no surprise to me that DDR HP5 was the last DDR for us in America, at least from what I'm seeing. The last time KONAMI actually came out with a DDR release that I felt was good at all was DDR Universe 3. That was the only DDR release I felt was actually going somewhere. Evidence? At least half the simfiles in that release had challenge charts, and seemed to be of 9, or 10-footer (DDR 1st-SN2 scale) material.

Uh, this is from Konami UK. We don't know about elsewhere yet.

This is...not surprising, however I would've thought that there would be some sort of effort to continue the franchise in the UK. It's not like nobody plays it there, just a lesser demand than in the US or Japan.

Maybe if they didn't build their cabinets out of complete crap they would've been more well received. They could throw in some really insane garbage for charts and if it was on a well constructed cab I'm sure people would play it a lot anyway (well, more than a machine with good charts and bad constriction at least).

Thing is, even with AMAZING pads, a cab on sale for around £10,000 in the middle of a recession is NEVER going to sell. It's very difficult trying to justify getting an X2 to an arcade owner here. The average one doesn't care what's on the machine song-wise, if he wants to get in a DDR machine, why shell out loads for an X2 when you could get 3-4 EuroMixes for that money?

If only all of Konami was this willing to give answers. I wonder what's in store for the U.S.
I'd assume it'd be the same for us because we've had very similar versions to EU since DDR X.

The average arcade chain can get an X2 for the same price as a EuroMIX, and would choose the EuroMIX every single time. Every arcade in the UK had the option of importing completely reasonably priced SuperNOVA 2, DDRX, DDR X2 or DDR X3 machines from Asia, but very few did, because they can't generate enough money to make it worth the space in their arcade.
Regardless of what anyone says on Twitter, every arcade still has the option of importing any DDR game released in Japan, and some of them still do.

I kinda expect the same thing to happen to North American audiences, too. Unless we're pulling the typical DDR formula, in which EU gets absolutely nothing, Asia regions get the best, and the Americas get borked versions, at a stupid price.

I mean, we're not really far behind in terms of the whole popularity thing
I don't really expect another CS release here. Unless they do what they did with Extreme/Supernova.
