I was looking at a DDR thread the other day, and immediately noticed that when an ITG player got mentioned in this thread that they should have clearly have been mentioned in, they were dismissed as though they didn't belong there. It really got my wheels turning, and I have to ask....
What is with all the ITG hate from the DDR community? I mean ITG was started by DDR players who got sick of dealing with konami's bullshit. I feel that both communities should be one and it should not be where both communites are like rival gangs. I feel like ITG would not have needed to have been invented in the first place if konami would have been more open to a wider range of ideas. Konami in their own rite hasn't done enough for this series over the years to really please everyone. There are so many things wrong with the series that comes from a lack of caring more than anything else. I sometimes feel like both communities are will start having turf wars.
I've practically heard it all from people on both sides, and even though I love ITG I still love DDR to an extent.
I just wish there was a way to bridge both communities
I'm just hoping that we can have a civil discussion without it blowing up. I felt that this needed to be brought up and I want people to ask the tough questions. Thanks!!

This has been discussed again and again on this forum and others. There isn't hate for the game ITG itself so much as the community and more specifically the vocal minority behind it. Opinions and stances on content and stepcharts remain varied and with ITG in particular there is a reliance 100% on custom content, and this led to a group of people that think they run the whole show and shove their opinions down everyone else's throats about what is "good" or "right". The stepchart design and song choices do not appeal to others and to make matters worse those that don't automatically "accept" it are ostracized. The hate from the ITG community started before the Konami lawsuit but it hit full gear from there and never let go.
One other issue is that DDR is global and is still being made whereas ITG remains secluded to parts of the US and a smattering of places in Europe, and it is a dead project carried on solely by custom content. ITG doesn't even exist in many countries. This isn't a problem, but blasts from the ITG community that "everyone else is wrong. We are right. We are awesome" was and still is really grating, and the attitudes behing it put off people from the series. If anything, any hate from the DDR "community" originated as a backlash from years of hate from the ITG community and were tired of the constant BS. You couldn't mention "DDR" without being insulted for a while depending on where/which community you participated in.
ITG was started because everyone thought DDR Extreme was the last in the series, there was no news of any new non-CS games, the original AC team disbanded, you could theorize about Max.(Period) and the ending credits to DDR Extreme CS (JP) as well.

That bridge was burned a long time ago, and it will probably never go back up.
Simply this: Elitism, too much on the ITG side ruined it for the rest of us.

^ Yeah, that's a lot less wordy than what I wrote. I tend to do that sometimes :/
If you are so inclined, here is a discussion (I use the term loosely) I had on my forum last year when this creeped up for the n'th time. There are many many other threads like it over the years but here is something to read if you want...perspective(?) or something
http://aaronin.jp/boards/viewtopic.php?t=8182
EDIT> Agreed with DDRmaster2007 that this should probably be moved to social forums, but it is a grey area...and potentially a time bomb waiting to go off.

just think of it like ponies.
There's people who make others hate ponies. They're not generally representative of the community as a whole, but there's enough of them (that are loud and obnoxious enough) to make it appear that way.
I think you become less of an elitist once you start playing pump it up. Don't know why. hah.
edit -Fortunately Aaron, most of the itg players stick to r21 and aij. So you'll probably just get a one sided positive ddr argument here or something.
IMO, tl;dr they both have merits. But I do think that if ITG hadn't been hacked, then it certainly would have died a few months post lawsuit.

I wasn't sure where to post this thread, but I wanted to put in the DDR board, because it was a question more directed at the DDR community. I kept up with the whole bunch of nonsense when it was going doing, but a few of the details weren't known to me till years later.
I understand what is being said about the underlying currents of what ITG really started between the communities, but I've found a lot of peole a lot less receptive of the idea of someone else actually creating a dance game other than adimiro and Konami. I just feel as though konami really missed out on a chance to make their product better while giving long time players a reason to continue playing the series.
We wouldn't be having this discussion if they cared about DDR half has much as their other bemani franchises.

Okay. Here we go:
1. The ITG community (at least around here) are a bunch of jerks that need to quit with the bs they pull on a daily basis
2. 95% of the music in ITG (this is MY opinion) is absolutely DREADFUL.
3. The whole "we're better because we play ITG" thing is REALLY annoying.

I don`t understand why so many people here hate ITG...
And what`s wron with the community?
In all games I know stupid idiots. It`s not just ITG. The most players I know and I`m talking with are very nice and are trying to help if I ask. Sure there are idiots but it`s the smaller part.
I`m very sorry for you, if you know only the idiots and this the whole community is this way.
I am on AIJ, I`m an ITG player. I`m not quadding 13s, not even passing them. I came there when I just passed my first 11.
And guess what`they are accepting my scores even if they are so much lower.
So where are the elitists now?
If you call the ITG community a bunch of jerks, so am I a jerk now?
Sorry, buit I`m part of this community of "Jerks"
ITG jerks, DDR jerks and also Pump.
gah.

Lucie, there area few ITG players that are not under the category of "elitist", these are the people who play ITG that don't have the mindset of what Ashura and Aaron talked about. You are in this category, NONE of us hate you for playing ITG, however there are other people within the community that pretty much makes it unbearable for any rhythm gamer to try and get into seeing that they are too "high in the clouds".

Sorry, but it just sounded like the whole community are elitists and jerks.
THAT`S NOT TRUE!
Let`s say it like this: If I`d be passing 15+ I`d still be the same person.
The only difference between me and the most part of the community I know is that`s I`m just a level 12 player and can`t quad stuff.
But who knows were I`ll be ion 1 or 2 years.
I`m sorry if I got you wrong... but reading stuff like "The ITG community are a bunch of jerks" just hurts.
We are not!

...I honestly think this thread should be closed and thrown away, this is really not helping anybody at this point.
It just seems that some of the members here have a different outlook to how they see ITG players depending on what THEY have either seen, experienced, and/or been through. While the general populace of DDR players have seen ITG players as "vicious, elitist, asshats", it sometimes may not ultimately be the case for some communities in certain areas.
Hell, you could say the same thing for DDR players to a certain extent, some are pretty damn rude, cocky, and too damn stubborn to understand many aspects of the community and basic self-control.
All-in-all, it just goes down to the people that "represent" the game in a way, how it's viewed by one individual may be totally different from another, but if more and more people join in the fray, the views become wider and obvious, making it harder for anybody to distinguish if in fact we are all just being liars and that the ITG community is just misunderstood, or if it really is the community that brought themselves down.
/done.
