I was watching some old DDR videos of the infamous "Boss Rush" courses, and I noticed that the battery lifebar tended to have different mechanics in between games.

Specifically:

Extreme: Battery is refilled to 4 lives after every song.
SN1 and SN2: Battery gains one life after every odd song (after Songs 1, 3, 5, etc.)
X and X2: Battery gains one life after every song.

In addition, in every game SN2 and before, you were not allowed to select mods for the courses (forced 1x vivid). In X2 (and most likely X3) only, you can change the speed mod in between songs on a course.

I've also heard that Dance Drill courses have different lifebar mechanics than other courses.

Can someone confirm/correct what I wrote above? I'm trying to put some nonstop courses into Stepmania and I need to make sure these are right.
Does X3 work the same way as X and X2? What about games before Extreme? (Did courses even exist in 5thMix and earlier?)

Also, is there a thorough, complete list of courses for every DDR game? (If I'm not being too ambitious, I'm including both CS and AC.) This includes the few courses with forced mods such as Oni Road from MAX2 and Trick from Extreme. I'm looking to input every official nonstop course in existence into my Stepmania.

7thMIX/Extreme: Battery is refilled to 4 lives after every song.

Battery gains 1 ~ 3 additional lives after each completed song. I don't think there's a formula to it, the number of lives earned seems scripted.

X3 works pretty much similarly to X2.

Do you know how the lifebar was in EXTREME? In DANCE DRILL courses, it can be said that it's as rough as that (compared to X2's lifebar, that's pretty rough).

My friend messed up TRIGGER Challenge 12th part (the jump-jackhammers) and failed immediately.

4thMIX has courses. It's in LINK MODE. IIRC 3rd also has some. I dunno about 2nd.

Also, if I'm not wrong, SN gives one life every each stage.

I'm almost certain that at least in JBoy's youtube video of SN1's Boss Rush episode IV, he mentions several times that after clearing FaxxChallenge (the fourth song, an even-numbered song), you don't get any lives back for HDVChallenge. You do get one after clearing ChaosHeavy (the third song, an odd-numbered song).

Oh, so that's the case. I was playing TRICK though. I think I should recheck next time I get around a SN machine.

I've compiled the info below from a variety of sources including Youtube and GameFAQs.

DDR EXTREME and earlier:
- The "Note" noteskin did not exist yet.
- Any mods may be used on nonstop courses (regular lifebar).
- No mods may be used on challenge courses (battery lifebar); they are forced 1x vivid.
- After every song in a challenge course, the lifebar gains a number of lives depending on the difficulty of the previous song, where only a 10-footer will add the maximum of 3 lives.
- AA the Final Stage on Heavy to unlock Extra Stage, which is a forced song on 1.5x reverse with a no-recover lifebar (add dark in MAX2). AA the Extra Stage song to unlock another Extra Stage (it is called "Extra Stage" again by the game but with the word Extra displayed in flashy rainbow text). The second Extra Stage is forced 1.5x reverse with a sudden-death lifebar (3x in Extreme, add dark in MAX2). The sudden death lifebar looks like a full lifebar but depletes instantly on a combo break or NG.

DDR SN1 changes:
- Added "Note" noteskin.
- After every odd-numbered song in a challenge course (after the 1st song, after the 3rd song, etc.), the lifebar gains 1 life.
- SN1: AA the Final Stage on Heavy to unlock Extra Stage, which is a forced song on 1.5x rainbow reverse no-recover. A (not AA) the Extra Stage to unlock One More Extra Stage, which is a forced song on sudden-death no mods (1x vivid). The sudden death lifebar looks like a 1/4 full red-colored lifebar without the word "Danger" that never moves until it is depleted.
- SN2: AA a stage before the Final Stage to unlock a special Final Stage. AA the special Final Stage to unlock Extra Stage, where any mods can be used but it has a battery lifebar with 1-4 lives depending on the Final Stage score (1 life if it was barely AA'd, 4 lives if it was AAA'd). In this game only, the game displays "Danger" on a battery lifebar with 1 life left. AAing a particular Extra Stage song unlocks Encore Extra Stage, which is forced 1x vivid on a battery lifebar with 1 life left. Neither Extra Stage is a forced song.

DDR X changes:
- Mods may now be used on challenge courses.
- After every song in a challenge course, the lifebar gains 1 life.
- Challenge courses now have two difficulties, like nonstop courses used to. Normal gives an 8-life battery bar, Difficult gives a 4-life battery bar.
- The Extra Stage system is identical to SN2 but with the score requirements to gain a particular number of lives nerfed so that an AAA is no longer needed to get all 4 lives, and barely AAing will get 2 lives, not 1. The game will no longer display "Danger" on a battery lifebar with 1 life left.

DDR X2 changes:
- The player may now change the speed mod (but no other mods) between songs in a course.
- In Dance Drill courses, the lifebar begins at full instead of half. It drains about twice as fast and refills about half as fast.
- AA all songs in the credit to unlock Extra Stage, which can be any song with any mods but forces a 4-life battery bar. AA a particular Extra Stage to unlock Encore Extra Stage, which can be any song with any mods but forces a 1-life battery bar.
- Special exception: After roppongi Evolved's 4 versions were fully unlocked in DDR X2, the Encore Extra Stage became forced on roppongi Evolved (a random version that would not be revealed until halfway through the song).
- Special exception #2: When Replicant D-action still existed, clearing any of the six RDA Extra Stage songs would earn a medal but never allow Encore Extra Stage. After getting the sixth medal, they are removed and the game proceeds immediately to Valkyrie dimensionHeavy as an Encore Extra Stage. In this way, the sixth RDA song and VD is like a 2-song course (no rest break, no mod changes allowed except speed mods).

Other info:
- In the DDR Wii series, the combo and lifebar are reset in between songs.
- Barring the fact that challenge courses used to force 1x vivid, the last course in any game to feature mods was TRICK in SN1 AC.

Can someone confirm/debunk as many of the statements above as possible?

Also, is there a thorough, complete list of courses for every DDR game?

I have that information, including the 15 Max2 IR courses done during regular play (the 15 sets of 3 songs that, if the player chose them in that order, spat our an IR code at the end).

I'm busy today but I'll put up any info. I have later today when I get back if someone else doesn't post it before I do.

Here are a couple of quick links in the meantime:

Here's the other Max2 courses:
