Just out of curiosity, when you record DDR arcade gameplays, have you tried putting a camera on a tripod, put it in front of the arcade machine and record away? Sounds kinda embarrassing to do in public.

Oh, and I can't do what delaywailing does in his youtube videos. I don't have a converter and I'm not wasting cash to buy a converter just for one game.

A while back when I used to record myself I had a small plastic tripod that I flexed around various parts of games so that I could record myself playing them. My main problems were making sure the setup didn't fall or, perhaps more importantly, the possibility of the camera being stolen (which would be more relevant to your situation). While it is possible that using a tripod would work, I wouldn't recommend it. If you had a friend to record you, I think that would be preferable.

This right here. I don't trust people any farther than I can throw them, so I never have any intent to record unless I know for sure a friend is going to be there to hold the camera himself.

A lot of people get a friend to hold the camera (or prop it up on another cabinet, pool table etc) if in an arcade.

Though, more and more DDR achievement videos are filmed on privately owned cabs at home (usually on a window sill or bookcase, etc)

At arcades I bring a bendy tripod and just attach it to one of the bars and play. Things can get shaky which sort of sucks, but unless you want to buy a full fledged tripod to put in back of the pads or on the side your not using, that might be your only choice.

I think some japanese arcades actually help people with gameplay footage, or so I've heard. Arcade gaming is still large enough over there for that, haha. I have a flexi-tripod that is very portable and I bought at Walmart for cheap, you can attach it to one of the bars just like Kon explained, but then again, it's something I've RARELY done because it's easy to get stuff stolen at arcades and internet-ddr fame isn't worth more than an expensive digital camera.

The easiest method is to use a friend. If they don't want to record your gameplay, either you're not that good or he/she doesn't love you enoughSad.

Attaching to the bar, huh? Never saw that coming.

I have friends who do the recording but they're tired already.

The most annoying thing is that the nearest DDR X machine from my home has been transferred far away. I don't want to drag my friends in the city just for more DDR recordings, even if one of them studies near the next nearest DDR X machine.

I bring a tripod and put it between the bars, behind the pad. Since I have to zoom in, sometimes it gets shaky if I hit the pad too hard.

I have friends that watch that tripod though. Sometimes when I go alone, I did that too. So far, it's pretty safe.

Hmmm, between the bars... that can work during versus play, can't it? Although I have the feeling that the tripod might come crashing down at some point.

Yup. And I didn't put it on the pad, I put it behind the pad. Too bad this setup won't work on Double play.

So the result will be like this:

Yeah, I just tried using a tripod. It gets shaky when I hit the pad hard. Oh, and it also gets embarrassing when people were staring at me...

For me it changed pretty much.
My first videos were made with my phone, put on a table and some paper to stuck it. But if someone moved the table the phone would fall xD

Then got a camera. Still same technic (unless i record a friend, then i act like an awesome tripod).
Then got a better camera (but the audio is bad) and then a tripod.

It went a lot better with the tripod.

I almost never record myself if i'm alone (unless i play on a safe place and that nobody can come behind me and steal my stuff).
I used many différent camera angle but usually i try to show the arrows on the screen and on the floor.

The "attached camera to the bars" surprised me a bit but that seems nice for some camera angle.

Last time I recorded myself playing DDR in the arcade was when I was at the movie theater's arcade in California. There was almost no one there and so I placed my iPod (yes, I recorded it using my iPod since I don't have a very good digital camera.) on the table and just recorded myself and not the screen. Cry

But now that I am in the Philippines, I don't do those kinds of things because apparently, if you tell some random person to record you while playing, they are most likely gone (with your camera!) by the time you finished the song. So it is always good to have a friend with you when you want to record your sessions.

"MAGGLE"
^^ What would some people think when you go to the arcade and set up your tripod, videocam/digicam right by the machine. And then there's also the children.

I was able to get someone I don't know to take a recording of me dancing, but he focused on me and not on the screen (I was playing only my railgun) and that he was near the speakers which resulted in broken sound. I usually ask people I know to record, but I don't do it a lot because they may get the impression that I am so cocky, I record my sets.

Thank you so much, Lord Toon!

That's the main problem why I can't just let someone else do the recording besides someone you know. They could be gone with your camera.

This so much. A child bumped the camera once, several times they wander on the pad, even once when my friend was playing! It also happened that when I was playing, some kids slipped in between the bars and obscured the camera. damn kids.
