According to a list of recently registered trademarks from Nintendo, it looks like we can expect a new DDR title fairly soon after the Wii U's launch! Not much to go on other than one listed as "DDR" under Konami's name, but hey, this is good news for those who keep up with the CS releases!

Important thing to note is that these are all Japanese game trademarks, no indication that this is a US planned release.

Perhaps it's Japan's DDR II/HP5? And if it isn't, maybe it'll find its way across the Pacific SOMEDAY SOMEHOW SOMEWHERE

I doubt it can be Japan's DDR II/HP5, unless those games have been region-locked to not play in Japan if imported.
Interesting to see what this could entail, the AC port of X3/X4 for Japan? And might shed some light on what the US might receive on their end? And along with this the EU version will have to wait ONLY ONE MONTH for the same ass version after it's initial US release?

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but the source is just a big list of Japanese trademarks from NeoGAF (bottom of the page). It's not a huge list of Wii U games, but a huge list of trademarks that could be for anything. The only meaning this list proves in regards to DDR is that Konami trademarked "DDR" in Japan again.

DDR II won't play on Japanese Wiis. In fact, all Wii games are region locked.Post #9 · Posted at 2012-02-14 02:26:13am 13.4 years ago

Interesting, this could be something along the lines of a MUSIC FIT 2 or something of an equivalence to DDR X3 only that it replaces all the American licenses with Japanese ones, leaves in the X2 AC songs DDR II got but with the added incentive of X3 songs, all the ones DDR II has but with additional X3 songs that the AC version has seeing that if it's for the Wii U the disc capacity (and audio + video quality) would be much greater than it's predecessor. Hell they might even throw in DDR 2010 songs in there and still have enough to put in only a slight number of DDR X4 songs in there too.

I would imagine a DDR release not in the launch year, but the following one (as was the case with HP1 in 2007, a year after the Wii launched.) Peripherals shouldn't be that hard to emulate from the Wii pads, they're essentially similar to the GC ones (and maybe even wireless pads could be in the foreseeable future). As for the content, I wouldn't mind the other X3 songs (since X3 hasn't officially released in the US... yet) as well as some more solid pop licenses (at least make them danceable like last year.) If X3's engine changed, Konami could implement the changes into the title.

I thought the Wii U basically shot a hole in DDR ideas by not having GC connectivity. No idea how this is going to work.

DDR III/HP6:
Will have just about all of the X3 originals PLUS:
-WH1TE RO5E
-shining
-If you were here (LED-G style)
-Chinese versions of Nijiro, iFuturelist, etc.
Now for the real comments:
Isn't the Wii U going straight wireless controllers? I imagine wireless controllers might have a slight delay for DDR mats, but a delay big enough to mean the difference between a Marvelous and a Great.

I wasn't 100% sure on my part, it was totally a guess, actually.

Konami don't own a trademark for the initials "DDR", though? It's the name of a country. The only have a trademarks for "DDR MAX", "DDR SuperNOVA", "DDR X" etc.

USPTO says they trademarked it in America in 2005.Post #20 · Posted at 2012-02-14 11:02:11am 13.4 years ago
