"X scale 20"
As seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sefwfHezjNE

This was a mode included in some of the Xbox DDR games that let you play on 4 pads at once. The chart looks like the doubles chart on 4 pads. Has anyone every heard of or played this mode?

"."
Nope, but it doesn't look like something enjoyable.

"DINGDONG♥HEARTS"
I've played back in the days. The Ultramix series would autogenerate the charts from the doubles charts, while removing freeze arrows and steps to make it playable.

That would have been the only mode I would have played if I had the space for it.

I forgot quad mode existed.
Doesn't seem like anything anyone would use. It's a bit overkill.
Kind of a waste.

I thought it was a neat idea. When I saw Quad Mode I couldn't play it correctly because I didn't have enough pads, and overlapping controls just didn't work. So When ULTRAMIX 4 came out I had already bought three box sets for the Xbox at that point and was able to use the Pump It Up Exceed pad as a fourth (The Pump soft pad that came with Exceed actually has nine-buttons so it worked).

I was honestly impressed. The charts were done as well as any Doubles chart. The MAX 300 (Super Max Me Mix) Quad/Heavy was proportional to the Single and Double Heavy charts. I don't think they did anything unbelievably creative with the mode but they didn't slouch either.

It's also the source of the best announcer card in any DDR game ever. Plug in four pads and access Quad Mode on ULTRAMIX 2 and the guy says "Wow, your house must be a double-wide!" Roll Eyes

I still think the best one is on DDR Universe 3 when the announcer says "I think your XBOX is starting to smoke!" or something of that nature when you're doing really well.

I would LOVE to play that if I had the space and pads; and even the concept of "Double xx Battle/Versus" would be rockin' to play with friends, too. The XBox versions just have so much great potential that I'd love to see brought into "main" DDR; and I'm surprised that to this day, nobody's even attempted to recreate it SM.

Not just Quad Mode, but Attack Mode and general 4-player/pad support as well.

I tried talking the StepMania devs into including Quad/Double Verses/etc. in StepMania several years ago. Their official response at the time was "It's too hard to code that."

That's one of the reasons I'm excited about sm-ssc morphing into StepMania 5. That potential for awesome has returned.

"DDR-ing regularly again!~"
I remember my friend bringing over her xbox and we hooked up her 2 softpads and mine and I tried playing the quad mode. Of course, the sofpads weren't very accurate and I didn't have the coordination back then, so I failed(and almost fell out that huge window that you see in all my DDR/ITG videos.

I like the idea of quad mode. It seems like something that could be used on future DDR arcade machines.

I had to tape all four pads to each other to prevent a comedy from erupting on the floor as each pad went its own direction.

It's funny, once you tape four pads to each other end to end they don't really need to be taped to anything else.
