I got this game unexpectedly at a game store the other day and I was ready to play the only PS1 DDR game to run at 60 frames. Anyways, everytime I play the game, it does not. The game slows down to a crawl at the song select screen when I'm switching songs rather rapidly. The scrolling text on the song select screen scrolls super slow. During gameplay, the game runs like Extra Mix on below. Thankfully I get no drifting issues, I guess the frame skipping compensates for that. At first I thought its my HDTV, but switching to an old SD set does nothing. I'm playing this on a 90000 series PS2 from Japan. Out of the dozens of BEMANI games I own for the PS1, this is the only one that acts like this. Anyone having this issue?

And I thought it's only the AC version which runs at 60fps? :O

Same here... 5thMIX was the only game I've seen push the PlayStation to its breaking point. They had to do some coding tricks to make it work and even then it wasn't 100% like the arcade.

Hmm, now, I take out the dancer, it runs a lot smoother. I think the game has issues running on the newer slim PS2s.

Yeah, I've had these same issues with my copy of 5th Mix. Still don't know of any way to fix it.

Hmm I never had any problems with 5thMIX CS on a Japanese PS1 or Japanese PS2.

What's your HDTV input set to, HDMI? Video/Component? You could try putting your TV's picture options to "Game" to see if that reduces any lag or frameskipping, some of them do that.
IIRC, the PS1 version of 5th Mix runs at 52 or 56 FPS, far above the 45 of 4th/Extra Mixes - and the difference is buttery-smooth obvious. Granted, the way present-day DDR runs, they're both bound to show their age at this point; but there's no reason it should be that bad.

You can't play without a dancer on 5th.

I think he means the BGAs. But that's half the charm of the game! I mean, who doesn't remember the bouncing suns, right?

Its in the options settings.
And I have the same issue on my Japanese PS2 with 5th mix. Works just fine on a PS1 though.

The arcade game ran at 60fps, but the home title was just a hair skippy in comparison. That shouldn't even be remotely surprising though, the game did really make that hardware do some work. Without a doubt, this had to be the reason why anything past 5th mix didn't hit the PS1. Despite the arcade game using similar hardware to the PS1, it did have extra RAM and more processing speed.
