BEMANI Unsolved Mysteries

This thread is essentially discussion about strange/unusual things in the BEMANI universe that have yet to be explained. Here's one to get started:



Released to the App Store in February of this year, DanceDanceRevolution FREEDOM was a sequel to the two previous successful iOS ports of DDR, DDR S and DDR S+. The free app showed up without any warning or mention from Konami and was panned by players immediately for off-sync and just plain bad charts. The game featured a number of downloadable licenses including huge hits like Rude Boy and Hey Soul Sister.

A short time after it was released, the game was quietly pulled off of the App Store and has not been seen since. Konami has made no official announcements regarding the game's future and when asked about it, NAOKI said he was unaware of the game and had not worked on it personally.

...And here's a couple of smaller ones:

DDR SuperNOVA JP CS contains the music file for ME AGAINST THE MUSIC by HELEN which would later be featured in DDR SuperNOVA2 but it was not playable on the game.

DDR II features music videos for KOs like sakura storm and Shiny World, but no KO music video that featured actual people (like DROP, Dazzlin' Darlin, and She is my Wife) were included.

You didn't mention that FREEDOM looked like it was in an early build state - (Incomplete menu animation, songwheel design)

Also - I'm fairly certain that we do not have concrete confirmation on who the following artists are:

Veeton (S-A-G-A)
PRASTIK DANCEFLOOR (Session series, others)

Has FREEDOM even been acknowledged by Konami, even in the menus? Naoki didn't know about it, nor did Konami announce it, and it was gone quickly, so I'm calling FREEDOM a fake.

I'm not sure if this was already covered, but I do know that in the very first beta of DDR, the songlist was BOYS, JUMP, and MONEY. Is there an image out there for the banner of JUMP?

Its very much real. I still have it on my iPod.

I feel like they made some little announcement on their Facebook page a few days before it was removed but I can't remember.

I remember seeing a FB post too.

I think they did make an announcement for it on either the Konami Facebook page or the DDR page, but it was either removed or just left there...

And yes, FREEDOM is all too real, i thought the inclusion of Ghosts N' Stuff from deadmau5 was pretty nifty, until i heard just about every single complain about the game. I do wonder how they got around to license that song and never bothered to put it in any other DDR game (not even in a DDR DLC pack for DDR S/S+).

Here's a DDR II mystery:

Every licensed tune in the game has its music video, in full uncut glory...except one. This Time I Know It's for Real by Donna Summer does not have a music video. At first, I thought the song never had one made, but lo and behold:



Anyone know why they didn't use it? Some quick looks don't reveal anything wrong.

Does that mean that it's literally "Gone Forever(tm)"? At least this quirky, obviously unfinished demo.

I have a feeling Freedom could get released (as a fully developed product) seeing that DDR S+ DLC stopped quite a while ago.

In some ways i don't cosnider this a REAL mystery, it could easily be solved as the artists didn't want the video in it/Konami didn't have the rights to get the video and put it in the game/Konami didn't have enough space to put it in the game/the publisher's of the music video were gone and they had no where to be able to host the rights to the video/etc.

I once read on a guide (I swear it was on DDR Freak or something, but I can't seem to find it now) that by using gameshark codes, Butterfly by Smile.dk would be selectable and playable on DDR USA PSX. The author went on to say something about Smile.dk not wanting their song on a US game and Konami had to dummy out the song at the last minute.

How true was that?

I don't think it's true, but there were lots of rumors about that stuff.

The empty slots that are just place holders in the Wii series when selecting characters makes you feel like you are incomplete.

I meant fake in terms of "it seems like it's made by Konami but it's really not" though I know that the game's on people's iPods and stuff.

Also, in the video production info, MAYA was given a keyword by kors k. She was puzzled over it's meaning, and kept it a secret.

Two songs on True Kiss Destination had one or more arrows in their maniac charts then there are in the future releases of the game. Those songs are...

SEXY PLANET
In fact CELEBRATE NITE has only one more arrow and SEXY PLANET is missing its first few steps in its future releases, which begs the question... WHY!?

The masterlist contains all songs, including CS only songs. The appearance of MAX. (period) is expected and doesn't indicate that it was ever considered for AC inclusion.
